big question is how does a 17 year old afford 5k ?? in 1949, according to 1 place is the equivalent of 133,600 ?? even so quite a good return ... I wonder how much my Austin Allegro 1.1 bought in 1982 (at 17) for 850 will be worth ( 2,210 apparantly )

The provenance is very confusing - the auctioneers website says DD ordered the car when she was 17, but then goes on to say the car was originally bought by Sir John Gaul, who kept it for 5 years, which would put Diana into her 20's (born 1931).

As for how she could afford it, some reports say she was given the car.

Yes, it said in another report he gave the car to her when she was 17, even though she was unable to drive at the time.
