 Lithium Iron Phosphate & Lithium-Ion batteries - henry k
When will we see them in EVs. They seem like a dream.
They seem what we are all waiting for?
Is it a case of waiting for prices to drop?

I don't know much, but isn't there a weight challenge with Lithium Iron?

Yeah - Quote

Lithium-ion has a higher energy density at 150/200 Wh/kg versus lithium iron phosphate at 90/120 Wh/kg. So, lithium-ion is normally the go-to source for power hungry electronics that drain batteries at a high rate

So for cars Lithium-ion is much more suitable. Advances in manufacture, chemistry and packaging may well of course change that

I've read that VW are investing in solid-state batteries as one way forward which seem to have many advantages over the current types.

Chinese built Tesla Model 3 short range models (~55kWh) have LiFePO4 batteries.

They take up the same space as the 77kWh pack of the Long range variants, and don't seem as good at cold-weather charging.
