89mph? Clearly wasnt that high performance, not sure why they boasted about it.

Ninety is about the point where fine/points turn into disqualification. If speed alone was the only point they'd have been reprimanded.

The issue seems to be that they effectively committed the crime of taking without owners consent (TWOC). They were supposed to be waiting for it to be recovered, not driving it.

Going back a few years when I was training such individuals much of the first week was given up to the Code of Ethics, Professional Standards and Behaviour. etc. etc.
Great emphasis was placed on the use of social media which as a generation we saw develop but the current generation/s have grown up with.
But time and time again we see them come a cropper. They have become too complacent with it and don't get the fact that there is a whole world out there waiting to take their legs away including, it seems, colleagues.
They clearly didn't think it through. Cars have devices like sat navs that record location and movement.

Its a failing not unique to the police, as a whole gamut of politicians from all sides of the spectrum go out of their way to prove on a daily basis.

And celebs, who go out of the their way (or employ professionals) to control and use their social media get caught out. Its an uncontrollable spider once you get on that web.
