3.5 years ago I was deep into buying a new car, had many new cars in my life (odd 2nd hand as well). Short list drawn up, magazines read, cars driven - shortlist prepared.
It took probably 3 months. Budget up to £25,000 - hopefully less

Attitudes varied, ignored in some outlets, insulted in one (cars under £6,000 around the back on my arrival in 9 yr old car). Some garages keen to talk but not discount.

One Lexus outlet very nice but would not budge a penny, they even wanted a £100 surcharge for extra work transferring my number to a new car.

2/3 days ago advert on another (HJ) site offered 2010 IS @ £6,700 off list
Today's newspaper advert for a 2011 diesel IS £20,000 -just under £4,000 off list "to celebrate a new outlet.

On same page Renault Megane Coupe advertised as discounted to £15,000.

What is the real price of cars? What are your recent experiences?

I would be keen on the Lexus but for illness making decisions difficult.

Secondhand small car prices rising.
Large petrols falling.

As economy slows next year with cuts and US likely to go into recession again, prices of new cars likely to fall again and Koreans squeezing mid market cars.. Offest by sterling falling as the BOE cynically devaluing currency and 2.5% VAT rise...

So new car sales likely to fall sharply boosting s/h prices further..

and of course import embargoes (taxes) might happen on these korean non cuddlies in the usa

Keep an eye open for keen deals on the IS250 petrol. With the automatic box it scrapes under the 225g/km CO2 tax threshold.

2009 models are probably 2008 build.

Must be a field of RHD Lexuses (i ?) that can't go anywhere other than UK, RoI, or Cyprus/Malta.
