Wasn't that the one where there was some creative accounting on the numbers made when it came to homologation? and one of their best drivers only took part in some of the races?

Very sadly reminds me of Henri Toivonen. One of my rally ‘heroes’ after winning the RAC rally in a Sunbeam Lotus. Days spent chasing the rally, standing in forests at night. Loved it.
I sooooo wanted one of those in Moonstone Blue. Ex factory for public ownership they had 150 bhp ( stand to be corrected).

Those were the days when the WRC was worth seeing. Lombard RAC rally ran over a few days and covered a decent spread of the country, including Killer Kielder and some fantastic Welsh stages.
Pre-kids I’d happily sleep in the back of the car somewhere in the middle of nowhere to watch those beasts come through.

They've sort of re-created it with the Roger Albert Clark event which recently took place. But no group B.

Watched it on ewe chube. Not the same , but nice memories of sideways Escorts, of which Ari Vatanen was another of my heroes

Me too. 4 of us followed the RAC rally from N Wales, through Lake District, Scotland, N Yorks forests. What a way to spend a damp November ( think it was November ).
GFs of that era thought I was nuts.

I would agree it was November. I attended Aireborough Grammar School on the A65 between Leeds and Ilkley. Passing cars were a bit of a distraction from lessons.
There also used to be an off road 'Special Stage'(?) down in the woods round Esholt - later famous as th location for Emmerdale.

Several noteable stages including Bramham Park and Harewood. Events started and finished in Harrogate as well as Chester and York

Spent a day marshalling the start point in Grizedale in the Lakes with the MG car club, probably mid to late sixties. Very noisy, wet and muddy. The cars too!
Ended up soaked to the skin. Never been wetter.
Stopped in a pub for potato pie, a pint, and a dry in front of a log fire, and fell asleep.

I loved group B rally cars, it was without doubt the most spectacular and skilful form of motorsport ever invented. Memories of Grizly Grisedale where car entered the stage at night, and sometimes came out the other end, sometimes in once piece. Forest night stages were magical, the noise fading in and out, flashes through the trees, the noise getting louder and a burst of noise, lights, mud gravel and s*** going everywhere....... weather always foul!
