Aka Velocette LE
 Noddy Bikes - Ted

Still got my 1966 Manchester City Police LE in the garage. I rode it when it was brand new in the city centre, call sign Alpha Mike 3. On the day shift, two of us used to ride to Preston with the night's 'pee' samples for alcohol checking at the NW forensic place.

Not fast but a comfy , gentle ride with a pot of tea at Belmont on the way. No ladies allowed on the bikes in the 60s. Mine is still in police trim and finished in black, as were all ours over the years.

I really should get it running, battery, plug clean and fresh petrol should sort it.

I remember a schoolmate telling us that they had a switch somewhere that let them do 160mph.

I'm not sure I believe him ;-)

I was surprised to learn there was also a (rare) air-cooled version, although the Velocette club aren't keen to let either model in.

The bike is 60 next year.
As you say a new battery, plugs, drain the tank and some juice would be a worthwhile job.

I haven't seen one on the road in decades. Bangers & Cash has seen the odd one over the years.

I think I have told this story before (almost all of my stories are recycled), but many years ago, I was poodling along the A316, perhaps a little over 40mph, when I realised a copper on a noddy bike was trying to catch me up, to pull me over. I stopped - can't remember whether it was a car or a motorbike. We both stood on the pavement - as you did in those days - we realised that we played rugby together - he was absolutely choked because he couldn't give me a ticket.

My father told me the tale of being pulled over by one for some trivial offence, and being in court(as you were for every trivial offence back then)
Anyways before the Maj, explaining his defence he said " and then I got pulled by a copper on a Noddy bike"
Maj " You mean a police constable on a motorcycle"

"I was a dispatch rider in the Royal Engineers I recognise a Noddy bike when I see it"

He got fined
