 V 16 Beacons Spain - CGNorwich
Use of these beacons which which replace warning triangles in Spain now seem to be compulsory. Anyone who drives in Spain know about them or have one?

My understanding is that they are compulsory only for cars registered in Spain.

If I hire a car in Spain will the beacon be included?

Depends on its first registration date, and if the previous renter had it away or not. To date all the cars I have hired have had the required kit. (warning triangle and first aid kit from memory)

Currently in France en-route to Spain.

My understanding is that the V16 beacon requirement applies only to Spanish registered vehicles.

I believe the reason is the EU - harmonisation of rules means no one country can impose upon the rest unless agreed EU wide. Cars are a particular issue where common standards have been adopted.

Thus if Spain sought to impose their rules upon others compliant in their home nations, this would be seen as a barrier to free movement.

Yes, it should be present regardless of the age of the vehicle.
