 Google Maps - Bromptonaut
Is it just me or has there been a change so it defaults to a satellite type view rather than a street map?

PITA yesterday trying to do a walkthrough up Wasdale as not clear where the metalled road ended.

Just checked and mine has too. Only one click on the "Layers" icon to switch it back though.

Mine is completely normal.

Is it because you are Northerners?

Oi!!!!

Who you calling a northerner? The furthest north I've ever been is Sheffield, and that was only one day to see the World Snooker Championship. And you know where you can stick your chips and gravy, and your black puddings.

Layers returns it to something that's recognisably a map but using it again today just to confirm my time estimate for a local trip the appearance has changed.

Is this the app on your phone, or the web page one? (you did say you were doing a walk through)

Just updated the phone app (android) to the latest. Still the same look and feel as before.

Web page.

Fine here, looks much the same as it did, defaults to the last layer that was used. You turned off cookies or anything?

Map looks different.

Not difficult to interpret, just not what it was.

So has mine (old laptop running Windows 7 Home Premium). I prefer it that way.

Google Maps is different on different devices (iphone, pc, Android etc) and is different again when using Apple car play or Android Auto.

I run it on my Android Phone (Pixel 9a) and via that over Android Auto on my Swace I've set the Android Auto display settings to show the satellite view as I prefer it on the car display.

Depending on where I am / what I'm doing I use either view on the phone display - unfortunately in it's last use via phone display I'd had it set to satellite so I can't comment if it has changed however under app setting/ "App and display" I can turn on/off "Start App in satellite view" and it does as you select.

I've noticed Google Maps looks rather different on a friends car via Apple Car Play - same make/model of car as it happens.

I've noticed a few things that have gone downhill recently on Google maps.
First one is that the house your looking for is on the left and Google maps is telling me it's on the right. Not all the time but quite often.

Also when I get a text with an address on it in Android I can long click it and Maps appears as an option.Clicking this opens maps with the destination.Been working fine until today where there was 2 roads with the same name but 3 miles apart.Even though the text message had the postcode in the text, maps sent me to the wrong road.So now i cannot trust clicking the links anymore because its doesn't seem to read the postcode.
