So my Hyundai is 5 years old at the end of the month and it's service plan and warranty comes to an end.
So I ask for a quote to extend both:
Service plan - 3 services £1,525 (at 10k miles or 1 per year)
Warranty extension £4,912
Total...£6,437 or almost £179 per month.
There are some leasing deals including servicing that are less than that!

For the past couple of after servic e-mails I have had the Ssangyong (sorry KGM dealer ) tell me my car was now outside the 3 year warranty. (They were also Ford dealers )
First year just deleted it. Srcond year reminded them that I have a 7 year warranty.
Will now not receive offers.
They do like to try it on though.

If you had bought a Toyota or a Lexus you would have had a ten year warranty.

If you had bought a Toyota or a Lexus you would have had a ten year warranty.
But..
Pre reg Korando 26 plate (auto for the sake of comparison £22.999 10 miles on clock.
Pre reg Rav 4 75 plate £44295 746 miles.
Both cars pretty well identical sizewise.
The Korando apart from a coil pack just after i bought it.. (rectified immediately on taking it in)
( No need for a 3 week wait for an appoitment..... ) has been totally reliable.
No Toyota hybrid battery problems either...
For £22000 more or less I'll stick with what I have for the sake of 4 extra years.
I'm still expecting the Korando to outlive me.

A fair point. The cost of long consumer warranties is invariably included in the initial cost of the product and bears no relationship to the reliability of the product. Warranty nice to have but you need to do your sums.

Service plan - up to you. Extended warranty - if the car has behaved itself thus far, most unlikely to be worth your money, especially at that rate !

>> So my Hyundai...
Which model is it?
We have a Gen 2 Hyundai Kona EV in the family and my maths when buying it assumed it'll be worthless at 5yrs old.

Which model is it?
2020 (reg 21) Tuscon 1.6 mild hybrid DCT auto diesel. 34k miles - was expecting to do 25k a year but covid and job changed.

I think the sensible thing to do would be to buy a car make that has a good reputation for reliability so that one doesn't need to go looking for dodgy warranty companies.
My friends at Which? say that Honda, Kia, Lexus, Mazda are the most reliable makes.
No surprises there!

My CRV is now 3 years old. It came with 5 year service agreement. Free servicing but they try it on each year for extras - AC Service, Petrol Treatment etc etc.
Warranty was 3 years so I took out another 3 years cover with Honda - £985 cover "similar to full warranty" and includes Breakdown Cover.
I have had quite a few Hondas in the last 31 years and never taken warranty cover after the 3 year standard warranty. I have spent very little on repairs in the 30 years - no issues with engine, gearbox, electrical - just the odd niggle.
I took out the warranty this time - mainly for the host of electronics that the car has. The parts list pricing is astronomical. e.g. Reversing Camera £1500+ fitting.

My BMW X1 is a 2016 model, came with a 5 year warranty and service pack (I bought secondf hand at 2 years old).
Ever since then I have paid for an annual BMW Extended warranty - its something like £350 a year (and has a £250 excess) but I just have that as piece of mind for anything major like electrics, idrive, gearbox etc.
And dealer serviced (which actually hasnt been pricey at all).
On a side note friend is looking to get a MG ZS+ hybrid and the 4th year service for that is dealer priced at over £900!

That's quite expensive peace of mind if you have never called on the warranty. As has been often said, put your £350 in a piggy bank and use it if you have to. Otherwise buy something nice ...

All insurance is expensive if you haven’t had the need to make use of it!

So is placing a bet if you always lose !

Aren't Kia and Hyundai based on the same running gear? If one is reliable then one would have thought the other would be too?
