 Suzuki - Suzuki S-Cross 2024 - ORB>>>
I thought I would start a separate thread about the S-Cross and my ongoing experiences.
Only done about a hundred miles since collecting friday last week.
Spotless and no marks anywhere and wheels unmarked too.
Seats a bit firmer than the Korando and from memory of my test drive in a Vitara, maybe a bit wider but good lateral support. Been mostly urban driving but showing 40.7 mpg

I 'think' my sis-in-law has one of these (I haven't seen it yet).

She does very few miles and after her Mercedes A-class became uneconomic to repair I suggested she would be a perfect candidate for a cheap used EV - I suggested a Renault Zoe (with an owned battery).

They go shopping and she comes back with a pre-registered new S-Cross (I think). Chalk and cheese to a Renault Zoe. Obviously a successful car salesman got his hands on them!

£20k ish pre-reg...

I paid £14,699 for a car 24 plate reg late july 2024 @ 16,400 miles got it non franchise in Braintree as my Colchester dealer didn't have any in stock over the past couple of weeks, once I had decided to bite the bullet with the Korando 5 year service coming up with ALL fluids changed.. Last year was bad enough and a lost day to drive Colchester to Wymondham for a dealer service to maintain warranty (7 years on mine) and wait and drive home.

The most important thing that SWMBO likes is that it has a manual handbrake, Doesn;t bother me at all.

Presumably a 1.4 booster jet engine ? . Automatic or manual transmission?

1.4 boosterjet and 6 speed manual.
Now with the badges on the back removed.

A little quirk of mine on all my cars.

How strange! Remember you doing the same with the Ssangyong, sort of understand that ( hoping that others think its something it isnt?)but don't understand the logic of doing it on the Suzuki.
Trust the services it's had where with a franchised dealer?
Have a play with the display on the drivers side binnacle, interesting to see when the 48v electric motor helps, most noticeable under acceleration in third gear in my experience, quite a strange feeling at first...oh and take it out of economy mode..
 Suzuki - Suzuki S-Cross 2024 - ORB>>>
For the badges, I think it looks far better without the alphabet salad on the back, A lot cleaner to me.
I have not played with the settings yet, but I'll have a look soon.
 Suzuki - Suzuki S-Cross 2024 - carmalade
How are you finding the gearshift quality? Mine is very notchy but seems to be the norm on these.
 Suzuki - Suzuki S-Cross 2024 - legacylad
Notchy…sounds familiar. Same on my 2019 Vitara.

I think newer models have a digital speedo in the centre of the binnacle ? Should I go down the S Cross route, rather than Karoq, it would be useful if it could be converted to KPH which I assume it can.
 Suzuki - Suzuki S-Cross 2024 - ORB>>>

Yes it can.

Tried in preparation of trip to france for a 5 day Luxury B&B. Place filled with antiques, very reasonable for our dates, Blodwen accepted, supplement for her is 10Euros 1st nught plus 5 per night thereafter.

Ditto, but the gate width is narrow, so need to get used to it.

Managed to go into settings to see about changing mph tokph.. easy enough.
Any other tips?

Make sure you have a spare wheel ( if not already installed) . I’ve got a space saver , jack and brace .,
 Suzuki - Suzuki S-Cross 2024 - legacylad
Is it ALLGRIP or two wheel drive…the original Conti EcoContacts on the rear of my Vitara lasted 45k miles, and were on 1.6/1.7mm tread when changed.

If you want me to put some miles on it, about 2,500, I’ll be in Plymouth this weekend sailing South. I can leave you my 1.4 manual as a runaround ?
 Suzuki - Suzuki S-Cross 2024 - ORB>>>
It;s a 2 WD. and has Contis on it too.
Thank you very much, but I'll put my own miles on it.. and not many of them either.

If I'm buying a car that sets my alarm bells off - like it's had poorly repaired rear-end damage where the bodyshop couldn't be bothered to replace the badges.

You can buy some "prestige" makes unbadged.. Not that the Suzuki is..

Perhaps you are more attentive than 99% of buyers.

We're all different (happily)
 Suzuki - Suzuki S-Cross 2024 - mcb100
I’m not usually one for de-badging, but I do sympathise when it comes to Suzuki.
ALLGRIP versions tend to have three badges in vertical orientation. That’d be OK if they weren’t all in different fonts….
 Suzuki - Suzuki S-Cross 2024 - Dog
>>ALLGRIP versions tend to have three badges in vertical orientation

Yup, I had an ALLGRIP, and it was an automatic - a proper slushbox, unlike the CVT in my Subaru.
 Suzuki - Suzuki S-Cross 2024 - ORB>>>
Yep. Me too.
3 badges. Too much clutter.
 Suzuki - Suzuki S-Cross 2024 - Paul 1963
Been thinking about this, personally I don't think the badges look to bad on a s- cross but that said I have taken off the locking wheel nuts on the swift to improve the look ( in my mind!!) Guess we all have different opinions of what looks right?
Hope you enjoy the car ORB, confident it won't give you any nasty surprises...
 Suzuki - Suzuki S-Cross 2024 - ORB>>>
So far so good, Seats pleasantly good. And it has a footrest for left foot.
 Suzuki - Suzuki S-Cross 2024 - legacylad
I had a sit in one yesterday when collecting touch up paint for the Vitara…with a lot of motorway miles imminent thought I’d prep the 2 stone chips on the bonnet.

Almost identical dash buttons to my 2019…only thing different was the addition of a larger touch screen, some different charging ports and being an Ultra spec , the relevant control for that.

Same sunroof controls, glad to see the sunglasses holder remains.

Slightly more cabin space and extra 50L boot space, but didn’t look that much larger. Same cheapo trim all round, but still room for a space saver spare.
Uninspiring colours…deep blue and a metallic darker red being the only colours I’d have.
 Suzuki - Suzuki S-Cross 2024 - ORB>>>
There was me mystified as no headlamp adjustment button and not knowing about the need or not for beam deflectors.

Our Local dealer Levois were super helpful this morning when i went round with the query about beamdeflectors/headlight adjustment, Hooked it up to their machine.

Rsult, Full LED headlihts and automatic self levelling from what I unferstood and flat beam.
Asked about software update for DAB+ and they'll ask Suzuki as nothing on their system.
They'll install front and rear dashcam for me.
And I didn't buy the car from them, but have spent over £600 so far with them and happy to do so.

I must admit, not used to this level of help.
 Suzuki - Suzuki S-Cross 2024 - legacylad
Levois supplied my space saver wheel kit…just realised I saw a headlight beam adjustment on the Ultra spec yesterday unless i’m imagining it..not on my Vitara which i think is self levelling
 Suzuki - Suzuki S-Cross 2024 - carmalade
Led headlights are self levelling with no dash adjustment switch . Regular halogen lights have the level adjustment switch to the right of the steering column. Led lights have a flat beam so no need for any masks.

Not quite true, my Swift has led lights and a level adjuster....
 Suzuki - Suzuki S-Cross 2024 - carmalade
Probably because the headlights output is less than 2000 lumens . In which case they only need manual adjustment.,
 Suzuki - Suzuki S-Cross 2024 - ORB>>>

In the showroom this morning a lovely metallic red.

I agree.
 Suzuki - Suzuki S-Cross 2024 - legacylad
As per my 2019 Vitara, is it perfectly normal to have LED on main beam, but halogen on high beam ?
Just curious…
 Suzuki - Suzuki S-Cross 2024 - carmalade
There are 3 types of headlights for the Vitara . Halogen on both dip and main . Led dip and halogen main and lastly full led on both dip and main .
 Suzuki - Suzuki S-Cross 2024 - ORB>>>
On My S-Cross 2024 I have led dip and main headlights, thanks to those on here and Levois Suzuki for helping.
 Suzuki - S-Cross 2024 MPG - ORB>>>
Filled up yesterday to take SWMBO off to Stanstead this morning.
On return readout was showing 57.2 MPG traffic pretty well free flowing except for the mile out of Colchester and the mile back in.

That's about 24mpg better than the Korando on the same run.

One happy bunny!

Not to bad at all! The 1.4T is a cracking engine.

A fellow dogwalker has just bought a vitara ( used ) after being so impressed with his daughters Vitara (also used ) She had an elderly skoda roomster and he had a 10 plate Fiesta. Both very happy with the "new to them" cars..

Presumably a hybrid but which one? I really enjoy our 1.4 non hybrid but I wonder if the full hybrid would be as good to drive.

I looked at the S-Cross myself. The 1.4 Boosterjet is now a mild hybrid. The 1.5 is a full hybrid but is combined with an automated manual (that was a no for me).

 Suzuki - S-Cross 2024 MPG - Duncan
Mild hybrid?
Full hybrid?

What do the words mean?
 Suzuki - S-Cross 2024 MPG - Dog
The primary difference is that full hybrids (HEVs) like my Subaru XV can drive short distances (typically up to a mile or two) using electric power alone.

Mild hybrids (MHEVs) like my previous Suzuki Vitara cannot drive on electricity alone and use their electric motor only to assist the internal combustion engine.
 Suzuki - S-Cross 2024 MPG - Paul 1963
>> Mild hybrid?
>> Full hybrid?
>>
>> What do the words mean?

Mild hybrid means the engine is given a little help from the electric motor mainly during acceleration whereas hybrid means the vehicle can drive purely on electric without the engine running.
A fairly basic explanation but you get the point....
 Suzuki - S-Cross 2024 MPG - Duncan
I have a Toyota Yaris hybrid. From time to time the car will be driven by the electrics alone. Other times the car is driven by the Atkinson Cycle engine and the electric motor cuts in when it feels like it.

What sort of hybrid have I got?
 Suzuki - S-Cross 2024 MPG - Bromptonaut
>> What sort of hybrid have I got?

Sounds like a full hybrid. Had a bigger Toyota as a hire car on Madeira last year which behaved exactly like that.

ORB - Please can I ask about refinement, especially at 70mph?
 Suzuki - Suzuki S-Cross 2024 - ORB>>>
Answers to Martin
It's a 1.4 mild hybrid 6 speed manual. Motion spec.

and John.
Haven’t done much 70MPH yet, maybe 12 miles so I couldn't answer honestly. In my limited experience so far, not as much road/wind noise, the Korando was on 18" low profile tyres. In spite of being a good 440 kilos lighter (than the Korando) it feels solid on the road, the doors don't shut with quite as nice a clunk, getting on well with the seats and driving position. Satnav via android auto works fine, phone setup was easy,
 Suzuki - Suzuki S-Cross 2024 - martin aston
Thanks for the clarification. It’s interesting that the mild hybrid is generally more favourably reviewed than the full hybrid. I say that because I assume the mild hybrid was a bit of a token effort on an existing engine whereas the full hybrid was presumably a fully redesigned set-up.
 Suzuki - Suzuki S-Cross 2024 - ORB>>>
The boosterjet mild hybrid lowers the Co2 emissions by 8gm/km

My son has a 22 plate Mhev 1.4 booster jet manual transmission. One disadvantage with these , is Suzuki fit a smaller 12 volt battery. It’s an 063 compared to my 027 ( 1.6 non turbo engine) . Reason being that the stop start system works from the 48 volt hybrid and the ISG . ( integrated starter generator) . He’s run the battery low a few times . Think I’ll upgrade it for him at some point .

End of June we're taking Blodwen with us fo 6 days in France.

Possible report after that. Must remember to put my beret on at a jaunty angle.
 Suzuki - Suzuki S-Cross 2024 - Paul 1963
If it helps, I drove our vitara(same engine and gearbox, similar suspension set up) a couple of times to the north east of Scotland, 602 miles each way, found it quite refined at sustained motorway cruising speeds, not a fan of cruise control, never use it so I can't comment on that aspect but I did like the lane change assist, unlike the current Swift it just gave a gentle vibration through the wheel.
 Suzuki - Suzuki S-Cross 2024 MPG - ORB>>>
Now done just on 500 miles.
Showing an average of 52. mpg That includes 2 round trips Colchester to Stanstead, 1 to Frinton, and the rest locally.
One VERY Happy Bunny
