Some kind soul damaged the front bumper when it was parked, Half inch split in the silver painted polycarbonate cover. Anyone got experience of a repair on these>

I know many won't agree - but why bother to repair.

The bumper has done what was intended to do - protect more vulnerable bodywork. Cost will be below the level where an insurance claim would be justified, particularly if there is an excess.

It will almost certainly not be the last very minor ding (for whatever reason).

Just leave and get fixed when there are other minor blemishes needing the same treatment - just before sale or handback to the leasing company where they may impact your finances more directly.

My first stop would not be a “smart” repairer unless you have a specific local recommendation. I prefer body repairs to be done indoors with enough time between operations. How about getting a price from a local conventional bodyshop and then decide.

Just leave it.
4 weeks ago I parked , with 20 other cars, on an open area on a col in French Pyrenees. returned several hours later to find the front of friends car all bashed in with cow bells.

I’ve got 4 deep starches on OS wing caused by cow bells.

NS wing pushed in by cow licking bonnet...can almost get my hand between wing and front door panel. Bonnet covered in 6 weeks dust but cows licking it, with barbed tongues, mean it won’t look good when I get round to cleaning it once back in the UK.

Such is life

I agree with Martin, a smart repair wouldn't cut it, it'll need plastic welding then paint.
Such a shame people can't respect others property.

All depends on your level of pride in the car's appearance. It's probably not worth an insurance claim, so you either do nothing and stop noticing the damage after a few weeks/months, or you ask your friendly local bodyshop to do a non-insurance job for their best price.

You pays your money .... one way or another. If possible resale-value is a consideration the choice may be clearer.

That sentence neatly encapsulates the scandalous state of the UK automotive damage repair industry feeding off the vulnerable design of modern cars (and their portrayal as a fashionable unblemished work of art) which we have all meekly accepted.

I didn't think it was a Mondeo. There's a dedicated website for duct taped Mondeo bumper pictures.

“and their portrayal as a fashionable unblemished work of art) which we have all meekly accepted.”

I guess you need to move to Paris. Not too many motors there you could you describe as an unblemished work of art. Reflects the Parisian style of driving.

I remember back in the seventies a public service advert on TV extolling the virtues of keeping your car clean and in good condition with the tag line “Pride in appearance, a spur to good motoring”

I think it is French, not just Parisian. As a 205 devotee I always looked out for examples when we were abroad. I remember one or two French ones where the driver must only have been able to see out through the areas the wipers could reach.
