What do members think of this site?

www.girlracer.co.uk/

It has general motoring as well as motorsport and extreme sport sections.

Appears to be aimed at women, and the majority of contributors are female.

The 'news' appears to be mostly press releases in a hj sort of style.

No forum, so girlracer is not competing with C4P, although it might be of interest to the management here, if they've not already seen it.

Might be an excellent site, but...

Went to the 'road test' section as with a name like 'girlracer' you might expect some pretty exotic machinery - top of the list is a Fiat Doblo MPV :)

Going back a few years I had some contact with folks who started a female motoring related website. The feedback I received was the real petrolhead girls didn't want anything to do with a site that assumed they'd only look at something if the headers were pink.... and those girls who would be comfortable with pink didn't care about reading car stuff.

Having said that I looked around the site and found their review of the new Citroen C4...

www.girlracer.co.uk/motoring/road-tests/7809-citroen-c4-first-drive.html

Note sure who wrote it but it's a car I've taken a great interest in and their review was as sensible and informative as any on the web.

And there was me thinking that there'd be a link to a photo of Iffy in a man-kini... ;-)

I only had a quick root around, but I thought a lot of the stuff was of better quality than one sometimes sees.

Appealing to women is one of the holy grails of publishing.

The Daily Mail pulled it off big-style when they launched Femail.

IIRC HJ started something similar and then quietly dropped it.

Oh yes -I remember that - that was pink as well wasn't it ?

Didn't he call it something-violet?

It was written by someone who was barely literate.

I think even the non-pedants on here would have been unimpressed.

Needless to say, I posted something about that at the time, and needless to say, the post was deleted.

Hardly a success... I've never heard of it :-)

That hardly matters - unless you are woman.

Although I think the Mail would tell you their Femail section also has a male (too many males in this sentence) readership.

It does give a little insight into how their often strange minds work...:-)

I find Sheilas Wheels - which advertise as if only for ladies - very reasonable - on house insurance...

But then I wore my tutu when I spoke to them...

I just completely fail to see the point of that site.

If the females are all interested in cars/bikes/anything why are they not on a site that specialises in that type of thing? (or on here)

Surely the subject is primary and the gender should come way down at the bottom of the list.

Don't get me started on the type of women who have to make a meal out of the fact they are female.....

I don't mind as long as they are making a meal while they make a meal out of it... so to speak.
