Good morning,

Never used this forum before, but I have a question. Can anyone recommend a good, independent, Toyota garage in or around Bristol where I can get my 2008 Corolla Verso serviced?

Many thanks.

Welcome to the forum, Boolean. (Or Not, tee hee.). Hope you'll stick around.

There are Toyota owners here but you might do well to ask your question on the Toyota owners' forum where you'll find more specific experience. For what it's worth, I've found our main dealer excellent so far, so our 2008 Verso will be staying in the network for the time being.

...so our 2008 Verso will be staying in the network for the time being...

In the time-honoured tradition of not quite answering the question....

The future value of a 2008 car would benefit from a dealer stamp at least for this year's service.

Worth ringing the local Toyota dealer for a quote, there are stories of service department still desperate for work, so you may be pleasantly surprised.

And it has to be worth an extra 50 quid for a cup of vending machine coffee and a peak at yesterday's paper. :)

By a startling coincidence I rang my Toyota dealer this morning to book in for a service. They are apparently swamped with work (first date they offered was second week of March). Also, their prices were £60 up this time for a service.

A few words moderated both of those issues, magically, but only by me giving up a few things I'd wanted in the deal (not on the service itself).

I didn't get the impression they were at all desperate for the business.

Many thanks for your suggestions. The question was sparked by experiences of VW dealer versus a one man operation ex-dealership mechanic, and a massive difference in quote prices for a cam belt/tensioner replacement. The one man band operated from a glorified barn but did the job excellently every time and never tried to fleece me.

I'll do some ringing round.

unfortunately it might be wise to use the toyota dealer in case another recall pops its ugly ead up in the near future and you get no freebeas

Thanks for the welcome, and for the advice about the Toyota forum. I'd already asked on it, but have not checked in for replies for a while. Looks like I will stay with the dealership.

Did you think about taking the extended warranty option that I was told about when I bought the car?

Worth staying with the dealer beyond the normal warranty period, Mr T doesn't abandon his customers the day the warranty runs out, well documented cases of vehicles 5 years old and over having goodwill carried out where the vehicle hasn't lived up to the normal trouble free life, though a good service history obviously helps.

Could try ringing round a few outlying but accessible dealers for service quotes, only you know whether your local dealer is worth staying with...mine is and some customers travel many miles to use them (family owned and staffed by good people), but Northampton (Sims Toyota) is obviously too far for you.

Again, thanks very much indeed for this information. Much appreciated. My local dealers are Toyota World Bristol North and South, which sound a bit corporate. I've been to the latter a couple of times and they seem reasonably efficient.
