Can I adapt it to take a (small) pillion passenger? I can weld or bolt bits on, e.g. a seat extension, pillion footpegs...

Can you fit pedals too?

You will need them if you're going two up!

You would have to consult the construction and use regs, I don't know the answer but a bored plod on a quiet shift might.:)

It seems the requirements are that the passenger sits on a seat "securely fitted behind the rider", "astride the seat" (note - it doesn't seem to matter which way they face!), and with "their feet on the footrests". That's all!

I would suggest you do that and get it MOT'd straight after - might be little underpowered though !

What!! About 2BHP (on a good day...)!

A mite underpowered then ? Who are you going to carry, adult or child ?

I remember back in the mid 1970s the first guy at school (6th form) with a moped that looked like a small motorbike but actually went OK ... and you could lock the pedals.

How cool we thought he looked with tiger tail tassles at each handlebar end.

Can't remember what it was though.

Possibly a big-ish small boy. I suppose I could tune the moped up a bit, but that would considerably narrow the "power band", and I'm not sure what the "automatic" transmission would make of it. The rest of it I'm sure would be able to handle the increased power - I'd aim for (say) a 50% increase.

They used to sell these I think in Woolworths or was it Derby ? We tend to look down our noses a tad at them as we tinkered with our four stroke Hondas !

I think they were sold mail-order, from what I've looked up on the 'Net.

Still, 1500W or so compares favourably to 200W for an electric bicycle (which also has a 15MPH "assisted" limit). Quite frankly, if I hadn't been given this machine, I would never have thought about such a thing.

That was my mental image - down to the colour...

I had two these given to me by a pal who emigrated to India. A blue one and a black one.
They were in bits and there were lots of spares.
I eventually gave the lot to the 15 yr old grandson of a friend who was good with bikes and they made a good one out of the two.
We have a shop a few miles away that does Tomos spares. I think they may still be made in one of the former Eastern Bloc countries...like the Velosolex.
