Hilarious Westpig, really made me chuckle. In the US they would have punted it off the road and massacred the driver and passengers, but in Europe we are frugal.

That Mercedes, driven evidently by someone quite drunk, had hit something. But I've seen at least two cars whose front wheel had ripped out like that under braking alone, back a few years. Come to think of it one was a Minor 1000 or a Marina - both the same at the front end. Can't remember what the other was.

If you happen to go through a pothole under violent acceleration or heavy braking, stress on front suspension or transmission parts can reach high enough levels to do damage. I broke a drive shaft in my Dyane once by braking heavily through a pothole (powerful inboard front drums in that case).
