 Ford auto gearboxes - CD4E & Durashift - henry k
My MkII Ford Mondeo has a CD4E four speed auto box ?
It lasted to about 120/130K before requiring an expensive rebuild.
These boxes seem to have a reputation for failing after about 80K so it lasted longer than most.

I am looking to get a late MK3 Mondeo most of which (2.0L) seem to still have the CD4E box.
Is this the case as the gate looks the same?

It seems that the 2.5 and 3.0 models have the Durashift 5 speed box.
What is its reputation like?

As I have not found a 2.0L one to date I am starting to consider a 2.5L.
Any idea of the difference in real fuel consumption? I guess the five speed box should improve things.
My real urban fuel consumption in gentle driving is about 27mpg.

Given your experience with the old one, and the aggro trying to find a new one, have you considered anything that does not have "Mondeo" on the boot?
