Nicole and I are both getting shocks when climbing out of my car. My son is getting them from his car - both recent events.

Caused by static from the vulcano ash?

will wash it off and see if it goes.

Interesting you say that - I have had my car almost a year and its only in the last week or two that I have had the same static issue - quite a jolt on occasions

More to do with the cold dry conditions prevailing at the moment I would think. Static leaks away in a damp atmosphere.

I dunno, I suspect its wind over the dust covered bodywork.

Yours or the cars?

Could be chaffing. Have you started wearing nylon Y-fronts?

my underware is no concern of yours. You have been in poland with hairy faced women for too long.

Not sure of the cause, but yeah, I have been getting some really strong shocks from the Mondeo, even after short trips of just a few minutes.

I washed the car yesterday, but have still been getting shocks.

The static definitely seems to build up over the course of a journey, because if I touch the metalwork before getting in I don't get a shock, but get one every time I get out.

I've had this lately too (Car needs a wash too) and happens on short journeys. But it happened sometimes before the volcano in Iceland erupted.

Was a perennial problem in Riyadh and Kuwait - hot, dry climates - after a while it became second nature to earth the car by touching it with briefcase or something before attempting to open doors.

Ah yes I remember it well.

I have had absolutely no problem with my Mondeo before or after its quick shower to get the dust off and before or after a a longer run out.

Perhaps it is because of the rust in the wheel arch messing up the connection? :-)
So my short answer is No. Do not blame Iceland they have now got it on their own doorstep.

You can always hang a chain from the back bumper - sorry they're not real bumpers any more.

If I remember, I push the door open and smack the outside of the door with the flat of my hand as I get out. The resulting expected pain overcomes the unexpected.

I get nasty ones from the Clio though not the Mondeo or FocuST, I have put it down to the seat material in the Clio as one slides out across the seat.
