Amazing! Well, depressing actually. We've been trying to move for months now, and when you see what £250,000 will get you in the somewhat less picturesque Reading area... :(

Put the Labour party in there, seal it up - not to be opened until 3010.

It was a rotor station. They all had a "cottage" over the top. Down south they were brick bungalows. We had one near me when I live in Essex, we all knew what it was.

It would make a good cannabis factory.

Wish property was that cheap here. £250k will get you a three bedroom terrace with a passage way for a view. That said just 5 miles down the road and the prices drop to £70k.

I will probably end up having to buy some cheap land some where like that and live in a static caravan when I retire.

Try to think more positively comrade, I used to live on the 11th floor of a council block in sowf lunden at your age,
The only difference between you and a millionaire is that a millionaire has more money than you.

Just seems to be a fighting battle though and I don't want to be in the situation where I am paying landlords or my life and I can't afford a house so buying some land and living like a gypsy isn't as bad as it sounds. My aunty swapped their million pound house for a carravan, although there is in a 5 star park with swimming pools etc.

Just really feeling the recession bite now. My medium turn plan would probably be to move out of this area (priced out) and buy some cheap flat in an average part of Manchester but then getting mortgages is very hard now.

I never imagined the last ten years would turn out how it did so I am hoping the next ten years will be better too :).

Things R tough at the moment all round from what I hear, wifey does the hiring & firing at a firm of Solicitors in Cornwall, she's had to 'lay off' over 10 people inc. Solicitors since 08,
Imagine how much worse it would be for you if you had 2.5 kyds and a Mortgage :(
Could be a good time to get out of this country me thinks, but then I've been saying that for years :)
The Caravan idea is ok, tried it once myself, needs to be winterized though, I'd stick a log burner in it, like they used to in the olde days.

Just wait Rattle, I think people find it hard to comprehend just how far house prices will (eventually) fall.

People have short memories of how markets can lose value. But just talk to some people that do technical analysis, and look at how property and stock markets have dropped from peaks in the past and you might start to believe that current prices are still very much near the top of a bubble.

tinyurl.com/32b4pp

The stock markets also have a way to fall, current P/E ratios are around 15, but in any cycle they will eventually fall below 10 before recovering.

Timing is the issue, but if you buy into housing now, you are buying much nearer the top than the bottom of the for the next 10 years.

Just gotta wait.

If you have the cash, keep it liquid, or diversifed across a good number of highly rated bonds, or put it into equities rather than property.

Don't listen to people who tell you that the market can't/won't fall that much eventually, they just haven't looked back far enough, or fall into the trap of thinking that "this time it is different because of X". Markets go in cycles, regardless of the fundamentals.

Again, just wait.

If you can wait, then do, if you have no choice but to wait, then lucky you...you get to wait and you don't even need to agonize over the choice.

Why do we have any time for any of our governments ? Are they all plain dumb? These "secret" bunkers all had the standard bungalow at ground level; the finish was just varied to suit local conditions / materials. "Secret" - no chance.

Some sort of large-scale televised experiment perhaps. Like the BBC Bang Goes The Theory bicycle-powered house: (note: video & sound starts up when link opens)
