Is it time to stop? Should there be a limit to this?

One survivor said she felt better to see Germany pursuing this. Is that the purpose of justice? To make someone feel better?

If a German guard had refused to obey orders at that time, I wonder what would have happened to him?

Yes. Not just due passage of time and infirmity of putative defendants but because dock should be occupied by those who ran cover ups in post war years.

I know The Odessa File is fiction but......

The passage of time will very quickly conclude bringing those that committed the atrocities during WW2 to a natural conclusion.

Were they coverups? Or was it an attempt to insulate France and the rest of the West from Communism by using the Germans as a buffer whom we now needed to be our friends.

What is certain that just as the few of 'The Few' who remain are increasingly idolised, even if they only went up once during the BoB and never saw a German, the few remaining camp guards hold the same talismanic status for those who would like to see 94-year-old men in the dock - even if they did little more than peel the potatoes. (Unclear from the BBC the level of the accused's involvement here.)

Interestingly the de-Nazification process excluded those (apart from the worst offenders) who were born after 1919, on the grounds they would be regarded as having been brainwashed; likewise those who were disabled. This accused seems to avoid the need of de-Nazification under both these headings. Is it equitable to treat somebody differently because they outlived the rest.

Have a read of this, for those who are interested. It really is nothing new under the sun. wiki2.org/en/Denazification+Newton

What was that saying, the Americans would fight the Russians down to the last German.

The shear hypocrisy of the US (and maybe us) when all of the top Nazi scientists were whisked away to work on their post-war projects (von Braun etc) and their Nazi (?SS) past was completely ignored and suppressed.

Thing was, with the rebuilding of W-Germany many of the ex-Nazi party members became heads of the civil service, the Trizone had no choice as so many nationals were part of the party (obviously not all by choice) so there was no one else around to start the internal rebuilding process.

Whether you can just go on the visual identification of a 94yr old after over 70 years is another matter.
