"Mum won't like it, Uncle Arthur."

RIP

His name has gone on that list.*

*very possibly one of the most perfectly timed and delivered little comedy moments.

Guess who died today?

Don't tell them Pike.

That and 'four candles'.

It's so funny. Often missed is the smile on the German's face as he delivers his lines. Phillip Madoc was also a first class actor, I read somewhere he was struggling to keep a straight face..brilliant scene.

It is a very funny scene and the out-takes / bloopers, would I imagine be great.

I have always noted the smile and it's what makes it so good for me.

My favorite episode S3.E11 "Branded". It's the one where Pvt. Godfrey is snubbed by the platoon when they find out he was a contentious objector in WW1, not knowing that he actually won the Military Medal for his bravery.

My favourite line in Dad's Army

Capt Mainwaring to Corp Jones " I did not see at camouflage training"

Corp Jones " Thank you sir"

The 'Branded' episode is one that makes me cry - even when the radio version is on it makes me well-up.

It is certainly an emotional episode for me as well.

I guess some of it is a reminder of all of the young men in WW1 who were treated dreadfully and executed for what was effectively shell shock.

Yep - and all around him jumped to a completely wrong conclusion and the fact he risks his own lift to go back in and rescue the captain.

For anyone interested, S3, E11 - Branded is on BBC2 today at 20:50.

At the end of the day though it wasn’t Pike who delivered the funny line was it?

Apart from Dad’s Army Lavender didn’t really do much else.

Are you sure?

Or does that reflect you're own viewing and/or memory?

Saw a nice cartoon today with Lavender standing in front of St Peter, who's asking "what's your name"?

Check out Wikipedia. Dad’s Army was definitely the peak of his career.

>>Peak of his career...

And many would be happy for such a peak and to be so fondly remembered.
