I don't really remember much about him except watching the odd Christmas show. Good age though!

He could be extremely funny, liked to extract the urine about his Scottishness and jocks in general, good with satire (his HM the queen entering the betting shop is a classic of its genre). Great mimic and accents in general.
Alas its a kind of humour that fell from favour.

Yes, I hadn't seen or heard of SB for so long I had assumed he left long ago ...

I'd forgotten all about him, but when I read of his death it brought back memories of his shows. He never seemed to be off the tv at one point.

I believe the shows where he recreated 40’s movies, impressions of film stars and mass dance routines were very expensive to make. Hence they were dropped.
Growing up in Scotland in the 60/70s he was one of the few Scottish comic actors that we teenagers liked. His contemporaries were largely still pushing the tartan variety acts.
Having said that both Chic Murray and Rikki Fulton had their moments but it was Stanley who made the wider U.K. impact.
