Brigitte Bardot RIP - James Loveless
An individual many of us real oldies will remember for what she represented.

"Brigitte Bardot, who has died at the age of 91, swept away cinema's staid 1950s' portrayal of women - coming to personify a new age of sexual liberation... an icon, who - in her prime - put the bikini, female desire, and French cinema on the map."

BBC radio seemed to concentrate on her controversial Muslim comments, something I don’t disagree with, they failed to commend her tireless work for animal rights .

In her later years she was a complete fruit cake.

I never met BB, although we share the same initials, but met a few celebs here and there. For that she was no worse than some but Fruitcake definitely not. Some of those I have met were exceptionaly gracious the rest were polite if a little reserved but none have ever been rude.
Anyways, we have enough British fruitcakes to worry about...

We must have listened to different programmes. The one I heard contained a filmography and a statement about work for animals before moving at the end to her friendship with Le Pen.

But then I do disagree with her comments about Islam.

She was born in 1934 and a lot of the comments that people object to now were fairly mainstream opinions then. Times have moved on and who knows what future generations will say about our opinions and actions.

I notice that her comment on the MeToo movement was that "Actresses flirt with producers to get roles". She was there and she must have seen it.

My late Mother, eight years older than Bardot and employed in a bank, spoke of hands on her knee at work as an occupational hazard. 'All right as long as it went no further' she said.

Mercifully, my daughter didn't have that experience.

The me too stuff went waaaay beyond flirting.

I think that her point was that the girls were hinting at or even offering sex to get the roles. The men of course being more than willing to take what was on offer. That was the way things were in those days and both sides played the game. I doubt if women using sex to get advantages has stopped even now and not just in films. As long as both sides know what they are doing and are happy doing it I don't see a big deal.

I would have thought it was fairly clear. In a relationship like producer and young actress the man, and it was nearly always a man, had all the power, it is still the same today in many industries although perhaps not so blatant as it once was.

My daughter had a part in a short comedy film.
Got noticed.
Went for a " screen test"
Walked out when asked to strip off.

I'm sure that option was always there, but it can't have been an easy decision. Masculine power was also there, but later holier-than-thous will always want to place the blame that way.
