Sooooooo, one set of the tree lights went phut last night (our last set with filament bulbs)
I says to 'er indoors, "lets pop down 't garden centre for a mince pie and coffee and see what they have"
all tree lights 50% off. Fill our boots we did.
However, here is the kicker, there was, on sale, a humungous sleigh/Reindeers/Santa combo garden display fully 5 foot tall, and 4 yards long at 1800 quids.........
A: who the hell spends that amount for a thing used for 4 weeks a year,
B: where the hell do you store it for the 48 weeks of the year.
It was magnificent tho.

Was the sleigh BNIB or ex display?
Perhaps the combo was there to draw the mums and dads in with the kiddies and has now served its purpose. Garden centre hasn't the space to store until next year and will need a new attraction anyway.

Indeed, tho we do avoid the motability rush at 12:00 Sunday for the roast dinner.
Why do oldies eat so early?

In the Christmas sale I'm going to the dentist today.
Tooth cracked and bit fell off and last night the 45 years old filling fell out.
(Wish my car repairs lasted that long.)
Broken upper molar .
Dentist off on holiday at the weekend so there's a discount for cash...
Just to add He's always available for emergencies for youngrovergirl and our friends.

Did you bite on the sixpence ? :-)

3 years I cracked the root of the Crown put in when I was about 18. It was the 3rd - 1st Crown lasted weeks, the 2nd 6mths or so The Mk3 lasted 58 years.
Offerings on the Scottish NHS was a plate. That was a no go area for me. A screw in + new pocelain crown was £2,700 + £150 / year "maintenace". I declined. Maybe if I was much younger I might have considered it but mid- 70s did not seem value.
Some £300 for a fancy bridge which lasted 1 year as the gum shrunk. The replacement was just under £200.
Currently I have a similar problem of a failed molar - part of the tooth came away with the old filling circa 50+ years old.
I have a temporary filling that looks like be left as a semi-permanent solution as the dentist is not sure about the strength of the root to attach a crown if he were to grind off the remaining tooth..

Depends on (a) how many years you have left and (b) how many teeth. I paid for a single implant to replace a pair of no.6/7 teeth several years ago. No problems since. Wife paid for a multiple job in 2008, which cost a bit more than the car we bought then and still have - over 8 grand. Also still doing fine.

I had an implant about three years ago when a molar became impossible to repair after repeated fillings. Leaving a gap would have meant the opposing tooth would have nothing to bite on. The cost was only about £2.5k with no additional annual cost. We pay our existing monthly membership fees for the surgery’s scheme and they always check out the implant as part of the inclusive six month checkups.
I was fortunate to be able to afford the implant. One of the side benefits is that the gum doesn’t shrink with an implant. Expensive but worth it in my book.

chatting with a friend and his wife in the pub yesterday…just before they embarked on a long overseas MH trip he took a chunk out of a large tooth, leaving jagged edges. He did some DIY dentistry using a dremel, smoothing off the rough edges himself until returning to the uk a few months later. His wife told me that on a previous trip he gashed himself then sewed himself up with a DIY emergency first aid kit. I didn’t enquire the detail, but he’s a very capable hands on DIY person so I wasn’t too surprised.

I'm in the middle of having three implants and a zircona bridge to replace 5 teeth which were previously just three teeth and a bridge but which somehow all went a bit Pete Tong at a private appointment.
With hindsight I probably could have had the work done for free but I was so incensed at the time I went for a £400 NHS denture, which is massively dislikable.
A private dentist here quoted me £7k nearly 4 years ago to do this job. AI is now estimating it at upwards of £9k round here.
So I'm having it done in Portugal where the all-in cost is €5600. I was earlier in Dec having the posts put in then when I go back in March the job will be finished. Apparently there is normally quite a gap in the process to allow the bone to fuse to the post.

That's cheap! I've had dentures since I was 15 (parents weren't into dental hygiene), with occasional renewals, usually when I've broken them. The last time was around a year ago and cost about a grand on the NHS.

Well, back from the dentist
Actually 2 teeth in trouble.
One filling and other one ground and prepped for a new crown in 3 weeks time.
Total cost £750.00 (cash price!!!)

HaHa what a soft lot you are ! I took all mine out with a small stick of dynamite in the 80s.
Actually, like Tubby Tom, I've not had any gnashers for a long time. In my case, they were harmed by an 18 inch long piece of rebar with a rubber hose handle at a household fracas in South Manchester. The guy didn't walk home that night, prior to that, his granny had jumped on my back and was trying to gouge out my eyes. I threw her over the handlebars into a rockery and got a complaint for my efforts. It was dismissed by the Chief Super who told me to ' hit her harder next time ' Oh, happy memories. Had a free NHS set made, tops are still in and very comfortable, lower set less so, so I never wear them, just keep me mouth shut ! At 80 yesterday, I won't be bothering.

Many happy returns Ted and wishes for many more to come!

One of the reasons I married a dentist...
I'm married to an obstetrics and gynaecologist.
Oops. But she did 5 years rotation in hospitals and then 5 years specialist training. Keeps very up to date though.
Saved me several times in lockdown.

Can't have been the gynae or obstetrics, can it, ORB ? :-)

>> ROB nor ORG.......
No actually, but if I had been a bad boy then the appropriate bits might have been removed. ( Accidentally...? )
Amongst her many talents she is a surgeon.
A real alphabet salad after her name...
