The Marston’s brewery in Burton upon Trent is set to be shut down nearly two hundred years after the company started making beer in the town.
In a bitter blow to the British beer industry,

Seems to me that many of the old breweries are going or have gone, now being mostly owned by a small handful of large drinks companies these days.
I saw one of my favourites, Hobgoblin, is now owned and brewed by Carlsberg, no longer at the Wychwood brewery but the Marstons in Burton. Wonder where it'll and up
Amusing pun tough :-)

Recent article in a Wilshire newspaper that was on Facebook mentioning a local tyre garage was closing down.
The headline was "sad times ahead for long established garage"
I got a few thumbs up by suggesting the headline should have been "local tyre garage have not had a Good Year"

We are going back in time to the 1970s when the choices were simple - Party 7, Watneys Red Barrel, Double Diamond, Worthington E.
Craft beers from specialist small scale breweries were clearly an aberration!

What's the ballpark price of a pint these days?

Recent visit to Liverpool £4.80
Lexden Crown Colchester £7.00
Mate in London last week £9.00

Blimey, I remember feeling cheated in the Two Puddings in Stratford because the were charging a whopping 20p for a pint of bitter.

'Spoon's yesterday £3.19 (JHB guest ale). Other beers are available for less.

Paid £4 for an excellent pint of ordinary bitter at a lovely pub (i.e not Spoons) in Greater London the other week. The answer, as ever, is "it depends".

It still staggers me that while we grumble at paying £1.80 for a litre of petrol (= £8/gallon or £1 a pint) people gladly pay out four times that (or more) for stuff which mostly drops from the sky without needing to be dug out of the earth. It's been like that for many years !

Best keep to tapwater then at around halfpence a litre.

You don’t beer, you only rent it.

The only beer in my local in Settle over £5 pint (£5.10 a few weeks ago) is Taylors. Vastly overrated in my opinion, but they have recently increased their brewing capacity and can sell all they make…mostly in the SE so good luck to them.
Recently changed the name of their winter brew from RamTam to Landlord Dark.
20p pint Camra discount for me so I normally pay circa £4.50 pint…currently ‘on tour’ in northern Spain and stocked up with Alhambra Especial (5.4%) 33cl @ 50cents + 21% vat at local C & C so drinking that.
