 Autumn Weather - Bromptonaut
Was here today.

Sunday and yesterday still almost summer.

This morning we were in Liverpool staying with The Lad and his Missus. Peeing down when I got up at eight and same when we left at one in the afternoon.

M62 all torrents and spray.

Brief interlude around Manchester but after Stoke rain resumed with avengeance pretty much all the way to M1/J16. Back to torrents, spray and massively reduced visibility.

Home just after four. Only saving grace was few jams.

Muppet award goes to the Mini whose paint exactly matched the road surface and had two tiny side lights.

After a few weeks In Asturias & Picos my timing to arrive the CBlanca in time for Storm Adam was pretty good. Made sure the car was not parked in a vulnerable position.
Sunday was a write off, torrential rain but escaped the worst 15 kms north.
Sun & 24C today, with a 30’minute storm out of nowhere late afternoon.
Folks back in the sea today, a full days walk tomorrow, avoiding barrancos with storm debris, but autumn has arrived.
Time in the rental villa pool today & SPF 30 required. Better than friends in Dumfries & Galloway who are very very wet at the moment. And cold.

When the kids were at school, we always used to go away at October half term, usually to Spain (until the travel companies realised how many folk were doing it and hiked the prices!). We usually had good weather, but there was invariably evidence of recent storm/flood damage.
Is it a sesonal thing, late October?

We have booked a ferry to France (Dunkerque} in 2 weeks time. Staying a bit outside of town and a day trip to Bruges and other places. Bruges prices absolutely silly for anywhere decent.

Up and down the m3 yesterday, spray was horrendous but surprisingly everyone seemed to be driving sensibly.
Sophie the swift could do with a new rear wiper blade.

Sharp daytime and overnight temp drop of 5 degrees or more here in the Algarve. Still low 20s though, rain threatened but didn't materialise yesterday.

I have a camera on the garden at home and I'm amazed at how the grass is coming back from the "very dead for an extended period", even without too much rain yet.

My earliest memory of serious overnight temp drop was in interior BC (Canada) in August 1965. On a clear bright afternoon, temp was in the 80s F (about 28) followed by overnight frost.

Yes, my lawn has been making up for lost growing time too, and while our fruit trees have been dropping leaves steadily for weeks, a neighbour's large tree is still well loaded.

My grass looks like it's got a severe case of alopecia.

>> My grass looks like it's got a severe case of alopecia.

Back is OK but with patches.

Front may be past praying for although it's probably recovered from similar before.

Come spring I'll take a view on reseeding patches that are still bare.

Consciously avoided applying feed/weed to it over several years and done the no mow may thing to encourage clover, buttercups. Now though something invasive that creeps under the soil has taken over.

A (double?) dose of fertiliser, selective weedkiller and anti moss treatment might be slated for March.

One of my lazy neighbours hardly ever cuts his lawn and it looks like a wilderness most of the time, whereas myself and my other 2 neighbours cut ours regularly (apart from when the heatwave was upon us)

Guess who's got the best looking lawn out of the 4 of us.

Yep, the lazy one.

Son and wife, who teaches, are on a half term trip to Seville ex Luton with Dad on taxi duty.

Weather OK leaving Northampton but wet by MK and still moderate/heavy at LUT.

Plans to spend an hour or two plane watching abandoned and came straight home. Conditions on M1 by then similar to yesterday's experience.

Ex Seville they're returning to Manchester where MiL will collect.

We're in a cul de sac where boundaries between houses cross grass laid by the developers. Line of back fence projected to the road forms one such. We're not supposed to fence or hedge the boundary though at least one has.

Originally the most of it was on next door's side and they mowed the lot. Subsequently they block paved most of it as their drive was cramped even for just two cars leaving most of it with us. However while the occupation was by the same family they, subsequently she as hubby found a younger model, looked after it.

She's now moved nearer town in search of a better social life. Not sure new couple know the answer to the boundary question and they've not mowed it - not that there's much to mow!

If they're OK I'll take it under my wing and treat it to the same regime as ours.

How was the pick up/drop off, I hear it's nine quid now? After my last experience with cornish cousin (they expected me to charge their BEV while they were away, drive them to Luton and pick them up). I told them I'd drop them at Luton Parkway and they could use their bus passes to travel free on the DART - they cocked that up! They then got lost at Parkway station, went out the wrong way and wouldn't answer their phone. In future I'll give anyone a lift to Bedford bus station and they can get the bus for three quid that takes them direct to the terminal!

I dropped them off in a more or less deserted area and it cost £9. Robbery but it was quick and simple.

Payment is made on line before midnight on day after drop off took place. There may have been a couple of car readers in another exit lane but they may have been associated with one of the car parks.

Son's offer to pay £9 was accepted but he's got a memory like a goldfish and only did it after I got home and reminded him. He used my email so I've got the receipt.

We use Stansted quite a bit. Drop off in the midstay at bus stop and free for 1 hour. Same on collection. A second hour costs £5, which I think is very fair. Buses are every 10 minutes and stop in front of th terminal entrance. Collection is a bit further along just where arrivals leave the building.

With the messing around for payment online the kiss & go in midstay works fine.

A couple of miles before stansted on the way fro Braintree there are several laybys to stop to time entry as flights have landed and go into the car park when off the plane.

Original plan for Seville involved Stansted but they couldn't make timings work as return was in the evening. They'd have struggled to be back in Liverpool in time for him to work on Monday. I wasn't over keen on driving there for a 20:00 arrival either.

Clocked the midstay facility previously when dropping but ended up using the zones close to the terminal and being there to greet.

Been in Cefalù, Sicily for 7 days, weather been perfect 23-25c, sunny, light winds. Landed back at Gatwick just in time for crap weather.

Out with the CBlanca Explorers group today. Cloudless from sunrise to sunset.
High twenties, 29.5C in Benidorm apparently, and post walk still 23C on the beach at El Portet 18:30.
Decent forecast for the next 7 days…lots of mountain walking and late evening swimming. I’m happy on the beach for 30 minutes after sunset, and rarely eat before 21:30.
Glad I’m not sailing home from Santander this weekend….

Loved it in Cefalù a few years ago. Took the train to Palermo and back for a great day out.

Did you visit the cemetery with the underground mummified vaults? Can't remember exactly where it was but we mentioned it here a bit back.
