I've not noticed the strange symbols in addition to the normal text in the past. There are now lots of Â. Why are they there?

Looks OK here, not sure what's up with your browser...

It's OK on my knee balanced netbook, is your machine having a tantrum?

They usually denote the size of text displyed but I've just clicked on them and they are not working.

this is all down to the language pack issue on your browser you raised in the computing section

How do I correct it? Please give a detailed explanation for us computer illiterates. My computer runs XP Home with IE8.
Thanks.

I would download and Install Firefox.

IE8 is full of holes and problems after recent updates.

What are these "holes and problems", my IE8 works perfectly and always has on both Vista and Win 7.

You must be an amateur tinkerer and have screwed up your system.

Hehe! agreed, I have Firefox and Opera installed though IE8 is far superior to use and faultless in performance.

IE8 is fine on my work and home machines. I prefer to use Firefox though, mainly because for years Firefox had better features. IE8 has caught up.

If you can read these symbols, it means you are eligible for additional age-related benefits.

I'm hardly an expert, but I think Zero's advice is worth thinking about. Moving away from IE a couple of years ago resolved problems that I had at the time.

Zero's advice is worth every penny I paid for it.

IE8 is much more stable with Java and many financial websites do not work with Firefox or Crud.

Bizzarly my Firefox is in Welsh - still works in English as well with no dodgy characters.

Panic over ~ I think. The problem only occurs if I click on the link provided by Old Navy in the State benefits v contributions thread. If I get there directly via the Directgov home page everything is OK.

P.S. I'm not saying that Old Navy is at fault in any way whatsoever.
