I have Open Office on this (my own) computer. I emailed myself an .xlsx file from work. When I try to download it (from work's Outlook web browser) it downloads (into Google Chrome) a file with a suffix .ashx

Clearly this is useless. What's going wrong?

Thanks

Can't comment about the technical aspects, but when this type of thing happens to me, I try to open the file with a different program.

Libre Office or one of the other free ones is worth a go.

Bit of a faff, of course, having to download a new program.

Or try to pull it off Outlook using a different browser.

Or email it to a different email service, I use hotmail all the time, so would try forwarding it to my little-used gmail address.

Some technical stuff here:

According to the author, simply renaming it as a pdf file might work:

"The best trick with an ASHX file is to simply rename it to the kind of file you expected it to be. It seems many are really supposed to be PDF files so, for example, if you download an ASHX file from your electric company, just rename it statement.pdf and open it. Apply the same logic for a music file, image file, etc."

Can't see any harm in trying that.
