Starting another thread on Virgin email - as mentioned on the last one, Virgin will be deleting or moving their emails to new servers that you will need to pay for to keep. As I also have a gmail account then I am happy to lose my virgin (blueyonder) account and do everything through gmail.
So I am in the process of going through online accounts and changing over to my gmail account. But i have some specific questions.
1. I currently access my email through the mail app on my iphone but they also all go to my outlook on my laptop which I think is still Office 2013. Is there a way that i can transfer all my folders from this to my gmail account? Or even transfer folder by folder preferably?
2. Once I am only using gmail, would I be better to use the gmail app on the iphone as opposed to the Mail app?
Thanks in advance.

Found this on the web - all sounds simple enough but would prefer to import one folder at a time just to make sure its not corrupting anything?
How to move your email address to a free email service
Sticking with your old provider’s email for three years can end up being expensive. Instead, switching to a free email like Gmail or Outlook is a smart, cost-effective move that only takes a few minutes.
How to switch your email to Gmail
Sticking with your old provider’s email for three years could add up to around £180. Instead, switching to a free email like Gmail or Outlook is a smart, cost-effective move that only takes a few minutes.
Open Gmail and click the️ Settings icon in the top right corner.
Go to ‘Accounts and Import’, then click ‘Import mail and contacts’.
Enter your old email address and follow the on-screen prompts to start the import.

You posted that while I was busy typing. That's sort of correct but you still could run into the size limitation. And Outlook isn't free email, it's an email program. Maybe they mean Office365.

In Outlook you can have offline folders which aren't associated to your email accounts. They are in a pst file and aren't accessible by anything other than Outlook as far as I know, so you can't walk round with them all on your phone.
Having said that, that's the way I work - massive offline folders into which stuff is filed once dealt with. At the moment it means I need to keep Outlook and a PC forever. Maybe if I paid for Office 365 that'd be different but I don't. But I can still access all the mails I have saved since about 2009 on my PC and laptop.
So if you set up a pst file in Outlook along with all your emails accounts you can simply drag and drop items and folders between them - or right click and move/copy.
Or you could copy the folders into your GMail account using the same method in Outlook but you might run into size limitations on your GMail account, particularly if you store your photos on it and don't pay for additional space, which I don't :-)
If you go the offline folder route you should backup your offline folders once in a while in case something goes wrong.
Btw I said in the other thread my Virgin email had stopped but it hasn't. They've not told me they are deleting it though, but I am still a Virgin customer.

My current Gmail has 6% of 15 GB used. So hopefully plenty space - tend not to have photos on emails.
Should have also said that I can also access my email through virgin webmail on my PC and that replicates the outlook and vice versa so I guess if I am importing from Virgin, it would actually technically be from the webmail as opposed to from my Outlook on my PC?
All this is not helped by Virgin merging with O2 and I seem to have 3 different Virgin passwords now.

I was thinking more of Google Photos which all comes out of the same free 15GB IIRC. But I recollect you are an Apple person so probably don't use Photos.
If you don't use that then you might well have enough space to just copy them all into GMail.
If you keep your GMail account in Outlook then it's easily reversible if it goes wrong, using the offline folders I mentioned.

OK, my outlook is only associated with my blueyonder account, this sounds like something else I need to look at tomorrow! Too late for starting that!
Cheers Smokie.
