One netbook, two operating systems - Iffy
There's an Aspire netbook featured on the QVC shopping channel today.

Looks fairly standard spec, apart from having two operating systems - Windows 7 and Android.

The channel's expert says Android is there for fast boot-up to email and the net.

Do computers routinely have more than one operating system?

And does having Android as well as 7 make any sense?

Dual boot systems were common at one time. Its pretty common for a linux (android is linux basically) system to be able to able to boot Windows.

Its used for all those times when Linux is useless.

Isn't Android used on smartphones?

It is but I believe it can run on the x86 platform. I imagine on this netbook the Android operating system would be stored on some kind of ROM chip.

Android is just cut down unix - sorry Linux - with a different interface.

Its probably a distro called "cream cake" or "frozen prunes" if you are a linux geektwat.

www.techspot.com/news/40572-acer-netbooks-to-dualboot-between-android-and-windows.html

" it seems the company is furthering its commitment with Google’s mobile platform in its native Taiwan, where it reportedly plans to adopt the dual-OS approach to netbooks as a standard on all models sporting a dual-core Intel Atom N550 processor.

The idea is basically to use Android as an Instant-On operating system which can be quickly booted for common tasks, including multimedia, email and browsing, while Windows remains the primary operating system to perform a wider range of tasks. "
