Printing a Google map... - Haywain
I'm sure that this one will be elementary to the computer buffs!

I have recently found that when I print a map from Google maps, it is sectioned by 2 vertical and 2 horizontal plain bands. I suspect that I may have inadvertantly switched on this facility for 'sub-dividing' the map to break up the view - but does anyone know how to switch it off and revert to a plain old map?

Many thanks...

From the configuration side panel go to View and check that Grid is unchecked (most likely cause?).

Otherwise check out the other Layers settings.

I can't see a 'configuration side panel panel', let alone 'Grid', Stuart. I'm using IE8 on Windows xp.

Sussed it, Stuart. I checked 'compatibilty vew' in 'tools' and that seems to have done the trick [I've no idea why, or how it got unchecked in the first place'. Thanks for replying.

Well that's obviously one way...:-)

I meant the configuration panel in Google Earth..:-))

Now that question has been answered, is there an easy way to get Google Maps to fill the screen?

I can make the map full width. using the '<<' command, but it's still narrow.

Streetview pics can be expanded to full screen, but not maps - as far as I can see.

In Google Earth, click on the Hide Sidebar button at the top of the screen to Enable or Disable it.

So that it is clear, I am referring here to Google Maps (not Earth).

That is what I do and it works on my (dare I say it) Windows PC.

Could it just possibly be a "problem" specific to other types of computers? ;-)

...Full screen:...

F11 on a Mac minimises the window to the top left of the screen.

I've tried a few other Fs with cmd, shift and so on, but to no avail.

A look at the linked forum suggests it's not possible.

F11 on Windows clears/returns the Taskbar and Toolbar (as you may well be aware) to give maximum screen size.

You need to go into the view menu and deselect the status bar and tool bar. If you look to the right of the menu items you will see what the respective short cuts for these actions are. (a standard feature on all mac menus).

Saw this mentioned in a forum - not 'full' full screen, but better:

Thanks Focus, it works on the world's finest brand of computers.

More than adequate for my occasional needs.

:) In Windows Firefox 'full screen' is available under the View menu as well as via F11 - have you tried that?

Depending on the reason(s) you are printing Google maps, it could be worth reading:

Focus,

F11 doesn't work with Firefox/Mac.

I mentioned further up the thread it minimises the window to the top left of the screen, although what for use, I don't know.

Stu,

Not printing, just looking.

"mentioned further up the thread it minimises the window to the top left of the screen, although what for use, I don't know."

to give you instant access t your desktop.

You can't get a totally full screen view of google earth but if you hide the side bar, tool bar and status bar you will come close

note - Question is about Google Maps, not Google Earth.

I know - I was attempting to point out that the same functionality is available in the 'Full Screen' option of the View menu.

Thats Amazing.

I've just tried to print a google map, and for the first time got the grid lines.
I haven't changed my settings, and I'm sure that I've printed maps recently.

I guess a windows update has change IE8 settings.

Anyway thanks to all. I'd never have sussed this on my own.
