I keep getting an icon telling me new updates are available.

I now find I've installed seven times: Security Update for Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Service Pack 1 Redistributable Package (KB2538242)

It's still telling me it's the update that's ready to install!

Am I doing something wrong?

I'm running Windows Vista home basic.

Reading up on this problem it would seem that downloading the full install file from Microsoft and running it will fix the problem tinyurl.com/6jbpbou

Assuming you have 32bit Vista you want the smallest file.
