Well, it's finally happened to me. My AOL webmail address has been got at and all my contacts are being inundated with spam. Mostly viagra adverts (sorry AC!). I tried to change my password on AOL but was asked a security question to which there is no answer and I've now been locked out for 24 hours! Is there anything I can do in the meantime to stop my contacts being dragged into this? I'll probably give up on AOL for good - only kept the address for simplicity after escaping from their clutches as an internet provider a few years ago - but I need to clear up this mess first.
Any advice gratefully received...

Assuming your contacts are being spammed from your account, your only recourse is to get the account suspended. Permanently.

Be aware that your address book details have probably been lifted.

I've declined the Viagra, but if anyone wants to know an email address for Mike's pension provider...:)

If Mike's going to bin the account, I suppose the best thing for us 'victims' is to mark it as junk.

Thanks all - I'm trying to suspend it permanently if AOL will let me talk to them. Their helpline and chat is for account holders only, which is interesting in France because they stopped doing accounts about five years ago.
Best if everyone marks anything from my aol address as spam and I'll try to start a new life.

Oh, and Newsquest can't afford any more pensioners...

Three more Viagra offers landed this afternoon.

I've now marked Mike's email as 'junk', so hopefully Hotmail's junk filter will do its job.

Ah, so that explains it. A bit slow of me not to have checked here but I don't often, as IT is mostly boring gobbledygook to me.

Yep. Got one from him too. Only just spotted it as it was delivered straight to my spam folder.

Over on Vec-C someone has complained that their Hotmail account has been hacked.
