For the first time in a long while I've had to travel in rush hour and I was surprised how quiet the roads were today.
Has everyone taken the day off to enjoy the sun?

Most people are now retired, on long term sick, drug dealers, attending protests full time or working from home. Rush hour not really thing.

Was stuck in M25 rush hour traffic yesterday twice. 1 hour 30 minutes to do 38 miles.

Must just be Norwich then.

I bet you can count the 10 moving cars you saw in Norwich today on one foot... :-)
I'm not often out in rush hour time these days but was almost shocked a few weeks back just how busy (really busy!) the M25 was on a weekday around 7:30 am.

Unfortunate, you should repeat that.

Its onset Altzhiemers.

The problem here is that is that 10 (Norwich) is 12 (Base10) :) - Other Formats exist.

Something I have oft wondered.
When people from Norwich put two fingers up to someone, how do they know which of their many fingers to choose?
|
Having used it, a lot, in my working life, I have oft used M25 traffic as a guide to how well the economy is doing, Quiet(er) rush hour traffic has given a 6 -12 month warning of an economic downturn. Busier, an upturn on the way. Its been remarkably accurate over 40 years.
This week, its average. Surprising really given the cost of fuel.
As far as the warning of impending fuel chaos goes, I still managed to stuff the tank from empty to full for less than 100 quid. I remember times when I couldnt.
|
|
As so many people today order stuff online instead of from a local store, I have wondered whether that increases or limits traffic, when there are couriers and Amazon vans doing the journeys instead ?

What's the average waiting time for a GP appointment these days?

It, and Norfolk in general is a lovely place to be. It does however disqualify inhabitants from commentating on rush hour traffic causes.

Norwich..going into the city from the A11.. just as bad as the M25 or North circular .
Went to the Kia dealers a few years back and it was hell to get to.
One of my neighbours moved up there to Norwich and hates it after downsizing from a £600,000 big flat near here.
Keeps coming back down on the train to visit almost weekly.
|
You will pleased to know that a new £150,000,000 interchange between the A11 and the A47 as you enter Norwich is currently under construction. Queues until 2028 I’m afraid
The Kia dealers (Holdens) are located in the same road as virtually every other car dealer and are more or less opposite Halfords. Fairly easy to locate.
Perhaps your neighbour should have rented a property for a while. Moving a long way from an area in which you have spent a long period can be difficult. Not a good idea to move for solely financial reasons unless you really have to.

I have had the extreme misfortune in recent years to have to take 2 teenagers to the University for Open Days. What a ballache by road. They have been instructed to only select Universities which are not in East Anglia and which do not require navigating via Birmingham from the Berkshire direction. First one complied and ended up in Leicester, second one is aiming for Leeds or Southampton. Good. But there's still a risk of having to drive to Norwich regularly as she's got it down as a back up. Groo.

My daughter lived near Bracknell in Berkshire for some years son I did the journey many times. M3, M25, M11.A11.
Relatively straightforward journey with all of the delays likely on M25 or M3 . Motorway or dual carriageway all the way.
Where do you live?

Drove there in reverse did we?

>>Universities...
One was at Southampton, but open days included Birmingham and Nottingham. I regularly travelled to Southampton for business so would drop off supplies and take her out to dinner when I could.
The other one started at UEA Norwich and that was a real ache to get to, especially in an emergency when he was very unwell. He subsequently changed to Kent at Canterbury which was a lot easier to get to. On the work trip to East Anglia, I did divert to Norwich, but it was still a trek.

Our three went to Birmingham, Cambridge then UCL and Nottingham respectively. The lads at Birmingham and Nottingham were fine after year 1 as they only needed transport to/from at the start/end of the year whereas daughter at Cambridge had to clear her room at the end of every term so the uni could let it for conferences etc. during the holidays, which was a bit of a pain. Could have been worse, one went to an open day at Durham, and had they gone there, from Surrey that would have been a 2-day return trip.

The ones with the webs between ? :)

On another note, We went from Colchester to Little walsingham today via Swaffham and both ways it seemed to be much quieter than usual
|
|
Nice quiet run out to North Wales today in fine weather. No holdups anywhere except for a handful of cyclists making overtaking awkward. My elderly 205 enjoyed a brand-new back box on the exhaust - the one fitted in 2010 was in danger of dropping off. Luckily I noticed before that happened.

It was a joke but the fenlanders did have a serious inbreeding problem, see NFN.

We’ll address your “joke” to the people of Cambridgeshire and Lincolnshire then. Only a small part of the Fens is located in Norfolk.

As a retired member of the aforementioned police, I am looking for the implied apostrophes. Might you be referring to some double quotes ? :-)

I read it as 'we shall or will' - which makes sense too ?
