The NC500-located accommodation books up early. Everywhere we stayed except Nairn (technically off route) was full.
Then there are midges. I expected to miss them by being early, but there they were at Inverewe Garden at Poolewe on 19th May! I got off lightly, they prefer my wife!
Early May is probably as good a time as any. The daylight hours were plenty long enough. Sunset today is nearly an hour later at Lochinver than it is in Tring.
