I used to have a "private" plate that for years I transferred from vehicle to vehicle, then, about ten years ago, I just got bored with it and the whole process. I realised that I didn't care what my reg plate looked like as long as it was legal, and indeed that it was highly unlikely that anyone else would. Sold it to some mug who did care, or thought others would I suppose. ;-)
I only ever had it in the first place because my wife bought it for me as a surprise Christmas present, and, well, you know how that goes, but I never felt like it was something that floated my boat.
Each to their own as always of course. If it pleases others to have them, then it's a harmless enough thing I guess.
