To close this one off:

After looking around he lowered his sights a bit to £7.5k-£9k. After looking at an Astra and a Mokka he's settled for a 2017 1.2 petrol Peugeot 2008 at £7999. He's aware of the issues with Puretech motors and this one, as it's post 2016, seems less affected by cambelt failures than earlier versions.

His old 107 is going to WBAC.

He's up in the Lakes with the 2008 this weekend and in Edinburgh next before joining us on the Hebrides. Flying to Stornoway though as his girlfriend's still learning to drive and, unlike him, was not inured as a child to long car journeys.
