At 21 years old my shy god-daughter (sadly since passed away) had just got her first bus driving job after passing the relevant test. She was driving along a short piece of dual carriageway. The police had closed the road ahead and was directing all traffic in to a car park - the entrance of which was before the incident and the exit was after the incident. God-daughter refused to take the bus in to the car park because there was a bar across the the entrance that was lower than the top of the bus. The police office told her in no uncertain terms that she would be in serious trouble if she didn't take the bus through the car park as she was blocking the road. Protesting and explaining the height issue had no effect so she gave in and took the bus in to the car park and crunched it against the overhead pole. The responsible police officer was "whisked away" by her colleagues. The police prosecuted her for driving without due care, but witnesses on the bus testified as to what happened in court and she was found not guilty.
