C$P prompts (Bromptonaut) : Computer Related

Normally my username is in the top right of the screen under the box with settings and search etc. It's there even if I need to log in in order to post.

Very occasionally, usually if I've been away and using another device I'm logged out completely and user shows as 'guest'.

Under those circs the 'new' tags go.

As soon as I log in again they begin to repopulate but only in respect of posts since logging back in.

If your cookie(s) get deleted somehow, they are likely to get replaced/recreated at subsequent use of the site, at which point the last access is stored, becomes available again, and drives the "new" flagging.

Yep, cookie deletion causes it.

You can try Mark All Read on each forum which will reset the cookies, I think that'll bring them back.

It's a side effect of cookies getting lost/having been deleted or being inhibited.

You might want to check if anything has happened in that space.

The red prompts on topic lists have disappeared from C$P on my laptop.

I'm guessing that an update has stopped your support for Windows 8.1.

Or is it something I've inadvertantly changed?

It's OK on my tablet.
