I used to shoot missiles at the Jindivik drones that were launched from there, in a past life. Shot one down once too, my missile went for the drone's engine rather than the towed heat source. My sister has lived 3 miles inland from there for 25 years, at the foot of Moelfre mountain. My Father's ashes are scattered up on the mountain, as are my son's, and I shall be there sometime in future too. It's only being so cheerful that keeps me going!

>>Only exception to that rule is where one of the tickets is a season and the other is not.

Aha. I had no idea that was an exception, thank you, it makes sense. But then, try persuading a ticket machine to give you a ticket from boundary zone 2... no hope, so it's down to a real person and a queue, so it's not often I manage that one.

If not physically changing don't forget that the train has to be one that stops at the station where you swop from one ticket to the next. Only exception to that rule is where one of the tickets is a season and the other is not.

I am sure that many of you may be aware of the savings which can be made by splitting a train journey into parts and buying a ticket for each.

I just looked at a journey from Oakham to Llanbedr (West coast Wales) and came up with the following fares, with a senior rail card - journey involves a change at Birmingham whatever ticket(s) you buy

Oakham To Llanbedr £41.20

Oakham to Birmingham £4.30

Birmingham to Llanbedr £8.60.

Almost a £30 saving and I wouldn't bank on your booking office drawing your attention to the anomaly! I wonder who gets the £30? Any long journey, even one not involving a physical change of trains may be cheaper on split tickets

I just bought a pair of these today

http://tinyurl.com/42hvbwy

I have no idea what I actually paid for them, probably the full price but they (not checked if they have given me a discount).

The picture does not do them justice, I don't know how good they sound yet but I suspect they are as good as any 6 metre cable and banana plugs you wouldn't get change out of £30 for in a HIFI shop.

The cables are nice and thick and they are heavy :).

You only get 2, but it all helps, especially if like me you're playing a bass.

>> PU how does it work? I can understand how it could do a slide, but
>> how does it convert one of those old brown negatives into colour?
>>
The software will know (roughly) what colour each scanned pixel of the negative represents in the original scene and will correct the scan accordingly. From personal experience getting an exact colour match can be tricky, but a close match to most negative types should be possible in the software - which needs to know if it is scanning a slide or a negative; this is automatic on some scanners and manual on others.

PU how does it work? I can understand how it could do a slide, but how does it convert one of those old brown negatives into colour?

Got a slightly older version of this - does exactly what it says in a simple way. A bargain at this price.

Just spent the last few hours in the hell which is known as Stockport but I noticed some bagains:-

Ryman
2 x 500 sheets of 100gsm paper, £11.99 for the two - that is very cheap but not sure if anybody here would need paper that thick.

Sainsbury's

FM Transmitter Logic3 £6 down from £20 - I only bought one last nigght from ASDA for £10 :(

Poundland

Metal oil can £1 - Is very well made and it has a metal nosel which means you can pinpoint exactly where you want to point the oil. Will use it to oil my bike.

Loft insulation on offer again. Need a top up?

B&Q - £3 a roll in store. That is a serious subsidy ( from the energy companies).

1200mm wide x 200deep x 2.75m long.

I think others are doing offers but this one looks the best.

I believe so; 7dayshop, mymemory, play.com and Amazon.co.uk all ship at least some stuff from the channel islands. I think Tesco for one also deliver DVDs etc. from a Jersey subsiduary.

Just checked the address on my last Amazon.co.uk order and it says:-

Amazon EU S.à.r.L.
c/o Marston Gate
Ridgmont, BEDFORD MK43 0XP
United Kingdom

So shipped from Bedford but registered elsewhere.

...ELO box set update...

It arrived this morning, and it is the pucker 3CD deluxe edition in a long case, with a book bound between the discs.

Good deal for £9.99, despite the wait.

Last time I looked, they'd put the price up a couple of quid.

Incidentally, it was posted from Jersey, I think stuff from the memorybits site comes from the same place.

Think I read somewhere internet retailers base themselves on the island for tax reasons.
