>>he bought the car two years ago for £600 but was hoping to get rid of it in the spring.
(hehe!) - I larf.
:o)

It should be preserved in the no doubt luxurious foyer of the Environment Agency head offices.

"and my sleeping bag literally weighs a ton and is full of water"

I think for £600 he got his money's worth

Or at least parked outside for a bit, with an attendant camera crew.

had the river been dredged, it would still be 10 foot under
|
Not 9'11" then? :o)
Dredging in the right places could be expected to have a small improving effect, but in terms of the flooding we've seen, it would have made only the most minor of improvements.
I must admit, I expected a local housing estate to be flooded as the houses are built on what at some time would have been a water meadow. Not the case though, I assume only by virtue of the fact that the borehole for the local water supply comes from the source of the river.

Owner is putting it up for auction to raise money for charity - not a bad idea really:
www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-somerset-26607154
And here it is - already up to £314: tinyurl.com/qcg3mqj

Damn, and we have only just bought the Fiesta, too late to back out now, deposit paid, order signed. If only I had known and Nicole wasn't so impatient. She will be devastated.

Not for me either - wrong colour.
|
Why hasn't he claimed on his insurance? He recovered the paperwork from the car so selling it on e bay seems an odd thing to dom even if it for charity. He could give the insurance payout to charity, surely
|
Possibly only has TPFT cover. Even if he had fully comp the insurers may decline any claim if the driver deliberately tried to drive through flood water.

Its a 15 year old Leon, worth 500 quid max with a full MOT. Its only going to be third party.

Not necessarily... I run a sub £500 car on fully comp.
Fully comp happens to be cheaper that TPFT!
|
Whats the excess, 500 quid?

No. 250.
And a few years back I had a car repaired after some twit drove into the back of me - NO excess paid as it was non-fault. I had paid 250 for the car!

How much will a claim for a written off car add to his insurance premiums for the next few years?

"This listing was ended by the seller because there was an error in the listing" at 8 last night. Bit strange.

Current bid is £29,200, owner says the money will go to charity but wants cash within three days of the auction end! MMM!
|
If you look at the bid history and click on the highest bidder link (currently £30,100) it says 'Feedback: 0% Positive'; not very promising.
EDIT: although the others below it look ok

Well at least the buyer looks legit - member since 2006, and 100% positive feedback out of 67 (66 buys).
|
>> Well at least the buyer looks legit
Top Gears next reasonably priced car ;)
|
Could be something like that, couldn't it - TV programme, or novelty restaurant?
|
The 101K bid was a hoax
www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-somerset-26676013
Mr Zajaczkowski said he contacted the bidder but he refused to pay, saying it had been intended as a joke.
He told the Central Somerset Gazette the bidder was a 17-year-old boy who had been encouraged by his 12-year-old brother.
He said he had now contacted two lower bidders who offered £101,000, in the hope that their bids were genuine.

So he can only have been 9 or 10 when he joined ebay in 2006. And by 2010 it looks like he was already buying Skoda parts. Odd.

Probably his parents account he knows the password for.

When one of my daughters was about 8 she unknowingly managed to bid and won a mobile phone whilst SWMBO's password was still live.
It was not a lot of money and we tried to be cross but it was funny.
