Fastest Police Car - Avon & Somerset have borrowed and Ariel Atom

www.telegraph.co.uk/motoring/10875978/Worlds-fastest-police-car-unveiled.html

It's to catch lead footed cars and motorcycyclists

Good advert for Ariel but I cannot see too many on Panda duty so Hyubdai/Skoda & vauxhall can breathe easily.

"Avon and Somerset Police borrowed the Atom from local manufacturer Ariel for the summer while it promotes a new road safety campaign aimed at slowing down speeding motorcyclists."

"...there are no plans to use it in operational police duties."

Wimps :)

But its not the world's fastest police car. Plenty of countries with publicity stunt type vehicles like Italy having the latest Lamborghini Huracan:

But that's nothing compared to the UAE. They've got a Bugatti Veyron!

I know the article on the Telegraph defines 'fastest' as the quickest around the TG track. But strictly speaking that doesn't make it the fastest car :-)

Mind you in everyday real world driving the Atom would win every time over the Veyron I reckon simply because it has less mass and better chuckability. The 'Ron is fastest for outright straight line speed but I'd rather have the Atom on the twisty stuff.

I wonder where they store the traffic cones?

I wonder where they store body bags. They'll need them if they ever chase scrotes who ram them.

Surely they should have borrowed a slower car then.

I bet the Atom doesn't even have airbags, TC, or ABS.

Chief Constables with a fondness for sporting cars are or used to be fairly common.

This one is going to provide senior officers with hours of illegal fun. I'm a bit envious to tell the truth.

Constable pursuit driver Plod will have to join the queue, and take it out in the hours of darkness (if permitted).

Perhaps I'm wrong and it will just be a pool car that no one wants to take out in winter.

Perhaps more important for the supposed use . .

Where do they put the calibrated speedo, Vascar or similar, ANPR system, radio . . .

Waste of taxpayers money as they can't really use it.

Was the Atom faster round to TG track than the Lambos and the Veyron?

Thanks! I hadn't thought of using Wiki! Over a second, that's significantly faster

Their headquarters are walking distance from me and they have an open day coming up. More tempted to go along now!
