My son has a poor Broadband service from BT - 0.8Mbps...he has had an upgrade at his local exchange - now 2.0 to 2.5 Mbps - still appalling in 2013 - he is about 8/9 miles from the centre of a city - so hardly in the middle of nowhere.

I'm approx 5 miles from my nearest exchange and get 2.5 to 3 mbps. Most of the time that speed is sufficient for my needs. Certainly fast enough for youtube, BBCi Player and the like so as not to cause any buffering issues.
