Other factors to consider. Rubber deteriorates with age, hence why there is a "change at xxx miles" or "change at xxx years" - whichever comes sooner.
Is the OPs car garaged?
Does it live outside all its life?
If the latter, does it spend a lot of time in the sun or shade?
What climate does the OP live in? Always cold, always warm, etc.
Sods law if he doesn't change it, then it will fail.
As for £400 to change it, try shopping around for a cheaper quote.
