Did anyone ever notice the banner advert over on HJ for a red diesel supplier that popped up now and again. I could think of no good reason to have that on a motoring website...

look

on a serious note. I am now using Shell V power, or whatever the good soup is called.

I have done nearly 3k miles in the lancer. It has a fairly low state of tune 16v 1.6 and has been programed on the lean side, I assume for better consumption figures. It has (had) a slightly dead feel when first coming off the idle control valve. The good soup cures this feature, plus gives about 3mpg more on a run. As it only has a small 45 litre tank, filling it with expensive soup does not feel too painful.

So the lancer get alternate tesoburyson regular and shell expensive stuff.

I tried the millars. It was expensive pants.

I have one diesel car which definitely runs better and gets much better economy on posh diesel and another one which doesn't. This therefore proves not much I suppose.

Have you tried the Tescos high octane (99?) stuff? IIRC quite a bit cheaper than Shell - might save you a bit, if it works.

Hopefully we'll not get quite so many of those.

Many of the threads that were made read-only on the old place would have been better left to drop down the board as people lost interest/deliberately ignored them.

Yes quite. Out of other car forums, Land Rover ones, Hi-Fi, DIY, Cameras etc the old place was the only one I used where thread locking was a regular issue.

Because it was used so much over there frequent posters would often call for the locking of a thread on the thread involved therefore keeping it at the top longer.

Many of you are talking about diesels/fuel economy, about which this clip does not provide much information. Nevertheless, this 'Fifth Gear' study is very telling in terms of performance, related to the car you drive:

Had this very argument last night - MX5 Tesco's Finest fuel and Honda Mainstream suppliers, Usually Shell or Esso - Used the V Power diesel no different in economy or perceived performance, my old Golf GTi - drank nothing other than V Power and was a stunning car to drive.
