Good day! Does anyone know if one still needs Crit’Air stickers for France (to be precise, will I still need one in mid-Feb)?
Google searches etc reveal news items from this summer about them being dropped, but I cannot find anything more since then, so I assume they remain a requirement for the same cities as before?
thanks!

So far as I can ascertain they're still needed.

There was some talk of changes but I think they're lost in France's political chaos.

They are currently still a thing.

Whether or not you need one is debatable (On two prolonged visits to France this year it was notable that a large proportion of French cars didn't have them) and will to an extent depend on location and atmospheric conditions.

Nonetheless, for the minimal cost of less than €5 purchased online for lifetime validity I've always bought for my vehicle(s).

Many thanks both of you. Yes, I was planning to go through the minimal hassle of getting one unless anyone new for certain that they have been or are about to be dropped.
thank you.

It's worth noting that as Crit'Air is enforced by ANPR, once you've paid you're covered - regardless of whether or not the sticker is displayed in your car's windscreen. I like having mine, it makes me think I might plan another trip over there at some point.

I don't think enforcement by camera is currently universal (though it does exist). I'm pretty sure the majority (where it takes place at all) is still by visual checking of the displayed sticker category.

If/when you apply online, the (immediately, by email) returned "facture" shows the reg no and categorisation, and can be used in the interim of the physical sticker arriving, should you be subject to a manual stop and check. I don't think I'd rely on this as a protection against displaying the sticker for an extended period after application, though.

I did apply, fairly painless and not expensive. I think they sent 3 various emails in response, 2 within seconds, and the 3rd one came the day after and confirmed that the car is now covered irrespective of whether I've received the sticker yet.

Sometime I'll have to get around to ordering the German version also, but in slower time I think... If this keeps on, the car windscreen will be covered in all these different vehicle emissions stickers - I'm surprised the EU hasn't rolled out a single scheme (a single sticker showing what emissions level the car has, which individual nations can then decide how they wish to apply). The cost of each sticker is so low that it cannot be a "money-generating" initiative by the FR or DE govts.

Agree. If our authorities decided to introduce a similar scheme I can't imagine it wouldn't be a money-maker!

This is where, years ago, I came into Car4play.

The cheapest/easiest method to obtain online is via the Berlin authorities. €5.95 and delivered by post with Teutonic efficiency.

I thought that, some years ago but not THAT many, I had to go to a German MOT-type station on arrival to get something similar. Times change I spose!

DEKRA and TUV stations (MOT-alike) along with the appropriate vehicle dealerships can issue over the counter at a similar cost. My experience, however, is that some of them have difficulty interpreting UK registration documents.

If you want one in advance by post without hassle or mark-up (there are a number of 'rogue' sites that will charge a significant premium), the Berlin route is the way to go (they'll simply use registration date for foreign vehicles).

Yep that's the way I got mine, very quick and straight forward e-form to complete.

I will be replacing the windscreen soon due to a stone chip. The crit air sticker doesn't look like it will come off easily but I am not sure I want to leave it up to the number plate being recognised.

In case it helps... the final email they sent with confirmation includes a colour version of the sticker you'll receive, plus a barcode and vehicle registration, clearly designed to be cut out and shown if needed. It also states "this invoice allows you to prove your approach and the classification of your vehicle". Might be sufficient?

Apparently, a commission has come to the conclusion that the crit'air legislation should be repealed and this may become law by the end of the month.
