Just had to make my first repair (other than routine stuff)

Absolutely appalled that I have had to expensively change a stop light bulb.

Lucky for me, I can still hold a screwdriver but the bulb cost £2.49 pence.

A bulb (how technologically quaint) is very much routine stuff.

With something like that , I think I’d would have booked it into a main dealer for a full diagnostic test. Initial charge around £150 +++

Sis-I-L was quoted £150 to diagnose a slipping clutch (manual) by a main dealer. Appalled at the quoted price of a replacement, she took it to a local independent. A quick drive on the forecourt and the diagnosis was confirmed. Replaced at around half the cost of main dealer.
Don't know if it was effective, as it was nicked shortly after (keyless entry!)

My 2012 Honda CRV failed it's MoT in 2023.
The orange indicator bulbs at th back still worked BUT the orange colour was failing.
My Indie charged me £2 for the 2 bulbs.

Current 2023 CRV is due an MoT later this month. Fingers crossed but has been 100% in my ownership.

Firstly well done for doing something about it, see so many cars with lights out, secondly well done for actually getting the tools out and replacing it, I've got a neighbour that asked me to open there bonnet, I thought it was a wind up but they seriously didn't have a clue.

About the simplest job to do.
By the way.. the car is 15 years old...

In the local paper last week the police stopped a car with a rear light out but on checking the driver.. no licence and insurance.

Not that that would apply to me...

I replaced all 6 tail light bulbs in my Astra last year for capless LED bulbs. I bought a pack of 10 LEDs, (so I would have some spares) for less than the price of one tungsten filament capless bulb.

I also bought some LED brake light bulbs (again cheap as chips), but I will need to fit load resistors to stop the bulb fail message.

Have you looked at the result? I've seen LED replacements that don't have the light spread of filament bulbs and when put behind lenses have a pinpoint of light, not the diffusion.

Yes, if anything, slightly brighter, but that could be down to the age of the old filament bulbs.
3 bulbs each side (2 in the rear wing light clusters, and 1 in the tailgate).

I changed 3 on one side to LEDs, then compared them to the other side that still had the old fashioned filament bulbs, before changing them too. They fill out the lenses and diffuse just fine.

Got them from my favourite Chinese shop in May 2025. (TEMU). 10 of them for 80p.

I’d have expected at least 12 for 80p. That’s inflation for you.

Nah, you're confusing it with tyre prices.
