Where will we go from here.
I can see manufacturers ending support unless paid for so if ( for example ) your car is 7 years old you will get no updates unless paid for.

It’s the way things are going.I pay £89 per year for VW’s WE connect now my car is over 3 years old. The choice is pay or go without certain features like remote aircon/ heating and map updates.

That sort of nonsense should be illegal, surely?

It’s pretty standard now with all manufacturers.

There is room here for some enterprising hacker to find a way round this.

I've got the app for the Suzuki, reasonably useful I guess but wouldn't miss it, as far as I know it's free for life

Bad news I’m afraid
You start paying for Suzuki Connect after 3 years

Yes just found that out! Hey ho never mind, like I said I won't miss it, it's more of a novelty for me.

My brother bought an e-208 and then found out he needed to pay a tenner a month for the app functions like pre heat etc

Similar with Seat - start to pay after one year.
Didn't bother as I never used the app in anger. Google maps much better than the built in sat-nav so the lack of updates was of no great concern.
It is a worrying trend. The first user (lease or buyer) gets the system free so is unconcerned by the costs. It is the s/h buyer who will be stung. If the app is non-critical they can choose not to subscribe.
But the same level of control could be applied to non-critical but highly desirable features - aircon, electric window, cameras, etc etc

If only the s/h buyer had some control over their buying choices.
