Rover 75 convertible (or coupe) anyone? One has to admire the skill, attention to detail and commitment that has gone into a project like this. While also asking the question - why? Even though it’s not a bad looking thing in convertible form, if one wanted a cut-price Bentley or even Rolls Royce Dawn…from a distance, in the twilight… Would it have out sold the A4 or 3series though?

That's so cool. I admire people that can do that sort of thing - I struggle with a screwdriver!

Yes, hats off to the guy. A serious amount of work has gone into those two cars and they look fantastic. Although I have to wonder how stiff the convertible is though?

Very impressive.

The convertible, in particular, looks so right. So much better than anything new on sale today.

Just read the Practical Classics article. Peter S, if memory serves me correct, should recognise where the roof came from.

Mightily impressive

I still wouldn’t swap it for my 2004 BMW 330 convertible with the non aspirated turbine smooth straight six . That was a glorious engine.

Legacylad, are you the Doc? If so many thanks for all the help on the other forum. Many years of real value. Incidentally, you were totally right on the e46 330...

No I’m not the Doc
But I’m often on holiday :-)

From a Mercedes at a guess!! That was one of my favourite cars - for the way it drove, covered distance and the colour combination. Much nicer in many ways than my current grey BMW with a black interior :( Modern Merc interiors get a lot of flack for being a bit ‘gaudy’, but I have to say to actually live with they are fantastic, IME.

In fact, I missed having a Mercedes and having a convertible so much that last summer I bought, for a very small amount of money in the great scheme of things, what was then a 17 year old 95,000 mile SLK. Of course, it’s a folding hard top so not a real convertible, and it’s a 200 Kompressor, so not that powerful, and it has an old school 5 speed auto so not even that responsive. But, it’s a nice thing to nip around the South Downs in, roof down, and, perhaps optimistically, in a few weeks I am taking it on a ‘Monte Carlo or Bust’ run to, unsurprisingly, Monte Carlo and back as part of road trip / fund raising exercise. It remains to be seen how it handles a couple of thousand miles in a little over a week, given that it’s only averaged around five and a half thousand miles a year over its life. Still, it’s MOT’ed, serviced and is having four new continentals fitted tomorrow. I’m sure it’ll be fine ;)

An A207 with a seized engine. Some other parts made it across too.

I love it! Why couldn't Rover have done it? Even at 25yrs old it looks good, although I think the Audi-style rad could with more rounded corners. With a decent 6cyl engine I'think it would have sold well...but sadly, good 6 pots are not our forte.....apart from the heavy post war Jag ones......although I've no complaints about the slant 4 in my TR7. Could they have used a Honda one?
PS has it had a front end shunt? I see it failed the MoT once with mis-aligned headlights...a bit of a giveaway!
