I am in Nice currently for the Ironman.
Ok technically, I am visiting Nice and noticed the Ironman was on. It’s the same thing really isn’t it?
Anyway after the event saw a lot of competitors wheeling their bikes back and the sprocket was making a really loud clicking noise as they pushed their bikes.
Far far louder than my own road bike on Shimano gears - anyone know why? Is it a completely different gear set ? And what makes it click so loud?

If time, visit the MAMAC in Nice ( modern art etc). The Yves Klein ( born in Nice) blue is my favourite colour.
Nice is one of two finishing points on the GR5 with some wonderful villages just inland in the Var valley..wonderful views of the Med as you drop down from the mountains just inland.

Some freehubs, Campagnolo and Mavic for example, are quite a bit louder than Shimano.

Did that. Hated monaco. Was back on the train asap to Ventimiglia on the border ( but no sign of Al Stewart) :-)

There are different ways of making a freehub, some are noisier than others. The double-disc star ratchet design is offensively loud because the hub has 36 metal teeth which clack together every ten degrees of rotation. It's possible to make them shut up by adding a layer of grease, but some people like the noise (like me).
