I bought an item described as a 'silver brooch'.
Should it have a hallmark, or even something to denote its purity if sterling, because I can't find any marks on it.
It's new and bought from a UK shop.

You like a bit of tom, do you, er, tom?

www.silverhallmarks.org.uk/ If it is UK made it should have a hallmark. SFAIK if it doesn't have one it is either not legal for sale and/or not of the required silver content to warrant a hallmark.
|
It should be hallmarked unless it's less than 1/4 t oz., or unless it was sold simply as being silver coloured.
|
I'm not sure that's true. Can you point to an online resource tending to confirm that?
|
It cant be described as silver tho. "Silver metal" will suffice.

Thanks for the replies. Looks like I'll have to borrow my local drug dealers scales.
